Oklahoma is 27-15-1 All Time in Bowl Games that didn't matter
So suck on that bitches.

Of course the Bowl Games that don't matter matter. It's important to be able to post such great numbers for your team.

They mean something for those who aren't gonna play pro ball in the future.

Fournette goes 4th, McCaffrey goes 8th. Be prepared for this to happen much more often in the future. And honestly, I'm fine with it.

McCaffrey isn't even a top pick, and probably should play in the game to help his draft stock. Bowl games don't matter, but you know what else doesn't really matter, college football in general. The kids don't get paid, so they could start sitting out any games they want.

You nailed that one. lol.

Pretty much piggybacking off of what I said earlier.

They haven't mattered for a while now, the best players aren't even partaking in them(can't blame them after what happened to Jaylon Smith last year) and while the perception is that it will help you going into next year, the fact is with a CFP committee, it doesn't matter where you're ranked to start the following year.

It's basically CFP or bust these days. Even sponsors are backing out left and right these days.
I agree in terms of national titles, but they're still extremely fun for fans and provide the returning team with a ton of extra practices, and an additional game, to lead into Spring Practice.

Yeah if it isn't Playoffs it is rather pointless. Bowl games lost a lot of prestige when they started letting 5-7 teams get bowls.

Everyone gets a trophy.

The outcome of bowl games are irrelevant. Sure its good fodder for the fans, but it doesn't really mean anything. And it's good for the players to get the extra practices, but it's still playing a meaningless game. If I were a senior who was a projected 1st/2nd rounder, I'd skip it to get ready for the Senior Bowl and then the combine and pro day. All that means WAY more than playing in a irrelevant bowl game.

I'm thinking the non CFP bowl games may turn into defacto first games for the next season. Let the seniors and draft players enjoy the bowl experience but play the guys you are going to hang your hat on next year. I don't buy the seniors/draftees "give 'em one last chance to impress the pros" crap for two reasons. Who says the other team is taking the game seriously and the pros already have tons of tape on their performance. They don't need one more game's worth. JMO.

Maybe for the lock-draft players. But for the kids on the fringe it certainly means something. It can mean the difference between being drafted or not. Hell, they play the senior bowl a few weeks after just for that reason.

You know
I think Bowl Games matter a lot to teams that aren't a Top 10-15 All Time Program.
Like when Oklahoma dismantled Auburn in the Sugar Bowl.

Oklahoma = Didn't want to be there.
Auburn = Was Balls Out to win.

Yawn

I find myself liking it more and more honestly. If our player is for sure gone then I want the best for him too and as a fan I can use the bowl to try n gage his replacement for the next season similar to the spring games ect.

With this logic doesn't that mean Notre Dame football doesn't really matter, since they're not playing for a conference title?

You drew that from what I said? I'm honestly not sure how you translated what I said into Notre Dame being irrelevant, but no the objective is to now make the CFP. As we've seen you can accomplish this without having to win a conference. Even winning a conference title doesn't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things. If Notre Dame goes 12-0 or 11-1(most years) they'll make the CFP. If we don't have that record we'll play in a meaningless bowl game with 70 other teams. Will I watch, sure, will I care, not really.
