I mean, I am as libertine as they come and this is a bit weird to me. I am open to it though if I am MLB though and want to market Trout like I would LeBron. We would need a radical rule change to make this work coherently, but this sounds like a good marketing idea instead of a good baseball idea.

NHL is not a threat to MLB right now. Their lowest rated World Series game in the last 10 years beats out the highest rated Stanley Cup game in that same time frame.

Seeing as how the NBA took the bull by the nuts on the all-star game format, it's clear that at least some people are aware that the 21st century is not going to be like the last 60 years. I won't be around when the attendance at MLB games is considered good when 3,000 show up -- which was what happened in the 1950s.
All the same, there is only so much you can do to the game before you fuck it up.
I mean, it ain't roller derby. If you spice up a baseball game and make it a 30-29 game, half the people will bitch because there isn't enough pitching.

MLS has hired some slick promotional people but the fact is, unless the female players play topless, the game is still just soccer.

Eh, basketball hasn't reached the levels that it had back in the 80s/90s just like baseball hasn't reached its levels of the 80s. Soccer still isn't anywhere close, it had no where to go but up.

Soccer, you could have that happen, if for some reason there's a substitution. Could happen in basketball, if LeBron ever fouls out (lol).

Hell, in basketball, if you're down enough, they don't even try to play the last 24 seconds. Same with football, you can just kneel it out.

Want Trout to bat in the bottom of the 9th? Get to his spot in the lineup.

Baseball is the only major sport in the US that doesn't have a game clock. Can't take a knee or run the 4 corners in baseball.

MLB is a lot closer to NBA than soccer is to MLB. Just going back to 2016, we had both the NBA Finals and World Series have classic 7 game series. MLB won in both average viewers and Game 7 viewers by 12.7% and 28.3% respectively.

How would this work? Does the team with the lead get to do the same if they’re up in the top half of the inning? Otherwise, road team gets through the meat of the order in the eighth, has to bat whoever is up next in their lineup in the top of the ninth and then has to face the meat of the order again in the bottom? That doesn’t sound fair.

I have MOCKINGLY suggested this type of thing when debating the DH, and everyone said it would never happen.

I might recommend that the best way for teams to draw fans is to play better baseball.
There is ample evidence to show that winning teams have more engaged attendance, sell more merchandise and promote a much more enthusiastic community.
