Toronto brings in Mike Santorelli - Mike Santorelli | TOR

I'm surprised that the Canucks didn't bring back Mikey S., but then again, he was a Torts favo(u)rite and they likely want to cleanse the franchise of any Torts taint.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed forwards Mike Santorelli and Petri Kontiola to one-year contracts.

Santorelli's deal is worth US$1.5 million, according to a league source. The 28-year-old spent last season with the Vancouver Canucks.

that is a very NICE deal for Santorelli. Now do this season again what he did last and he will get a multi year deal.

Farhan chimes in:

FarhanLaljiTSN: Wouldn't accept 1 year deal with #canucks RT @DarrenDreger: Leafs have agreed to a 1 year deal with Mike Santorelli, $1.5 mil.

So, if you eliminate the teams that don't have salary cap room and don't have the required draft picks, you're left with a list of eight teams: Arizona, Calgary, Colorado, Minnesota, Montreal, Nashville, San Jose and Winnipeg.

Nashville would be such a logical choice to do an offer sheet because they need a number one center bad and they have the cap space

Burkie's head would explode if baby dragon submitted an offer sheet - Not worth the backlash and I'm pretty sure the Jackets would match anyway.

That was a lucid, well thought out and well researched article. So I refuse to believe that twatwaffle wrote it.

I think it's an "auto-match" to a point. And I don't know if any other GM (that has the ability to do it picks wise) is dumb enough to sign a 7.5+m offer for a guy who is below a PPG in his career and is one season away from being benched in the minors.

Granted, I believe and everyone else can see that this year will be completely trounced by next year and he will only get better beyond that. But based on what has happened so far, I don't see any GM really going that overboard on it.

It's not money, it's term. Jarmo just has to convince him to take the bridge and cash in two years from now instead of right now. A 4m raise is still pretty good. I know they can't do bonuses per se, but pretty much if Johansen gets 80+ pts the next two seasons he'll get a 7 year deal at whatever money he wants.

Why would Calgary offer sheet a centre when they just drafted two in two consecutive first rounds?

Nashville would be logical - they've drafted well the past few years, their defence is as solid as it gets, RyJo would be an excellent selling point for potential future acquisitions, and although the current division/playoff format is almost assuredly finished after this upcoming season, this would keep them on a similar footing with Dallas and Minnesota as the teams likely to be fighting out for the 3rd/wild cards in the central.

Of course, if Pekka Rinne goes through another season of injury hell, all bets are off.

This is a really good signing, IMO.

The Sens will now have great center depth. No true, top end #1 but great depth.

I like it.

I'd love to see some kind of upgrade to the blueline but I think this team might surprise.
