My original intent was to use West Virginia as an example of a program in a relatively small market (vs other power 5 programs) can prove to be a good addition if it has a strong fanbase... Nebraska is another

I kind of went off on a tangent with my last post there

We don't quite have the tradition of a West Virginia or Nebraska, but our program is one of the more recognizable brands in college football.

In this whole silly hypothetical idea, I was saying adding our program to a big conference with a smaller market but recognizable brand and strong fanbase works a whole lot better than adding someone like Rutgers in a big market and hoping that someone in that big market actually cares about them

It's all good. I really do wish the B12 would add Boise. Nice tradition they have had the last decade and a passionate fan base that seems to be growing.

An I agree 100% about adding a team that no one gives a shit about just for the market. Hopefully that will stop once people start streaming more.

Me thinks you guys would win half of them...but, then the blue smurfs would shit the bed against the likes of Iowa State, etc. You guys, Utah and TCU had some good MWC battles back in the day.

If the Big 12 expands it will be Rice, Houston, SMU, and UTEP.

Please! Never, never mention "Houston" in the same sentence as the Big 12. PLEASE!!!!!

With how we have been lately I wouldn't doubt that, we haven't gone without dropping a game we shouldn't have since 2009.

Wouldn't say us and Utah had good battles, we pretty much took a massive dump on them every time we played. We've beaten them every time since becoming a FBS member. TCU I would certainly have to agree, every game against them has been a good one decided by no more than one score, although we kind of pissed the bed both times we lost to them

Id rather see Boise in the PAC personally, I think Boise v Colorado would be great and BSU v Oregon and/or Utah would have a lot of juice too.

I wish Trucker community college would get the invite to the Pac 12.

But the B1G and SEC can afford to do that. The Big 12 can't. This conference is concentrated solely on one TV market and that is what is hurting the brand. This is why if this conference expands, it needs to add from this list:

Tulane
Cincy,
Memphis
UCF
USF

I think UCF/USF would probably be the best of the group, should help add a larger recruiting pool for B12 teams gaining more access to the Florida Market.

Those were exactly who I wanted first and foremost when expansion was on the table for the reasons you mention plus we would have had an instant P5 level rival game in two huge cities/markets in a talent rich state. If the leadership at both schools was good (not a given BTW, USF came a long way but never reached its full potential as a BigEast expansion school imo) that could have been a hit.

We would have more of an argument if they didn't completely humiliate us in the bowl game last year :L

Playing those 3 would be a lot of fun, also playing teams like USC and UCLA would be a blast

Agree with most on here. I don't see them making a P5 conference.

I think they missed their window of opportunity. Basically, their football team had their run too early. They were good enough that I think just about any P5 conference would have taken them. However, their academics and facilities weren't of a caliber for them to qualify. Add to that their small television footprint and they aren't likely to get another opportunity unless and until they go on another run like that.

I think that going forward they will a respected mid-major similar to BYU or Gonzaga in basketball.

Hard to say never,

70 years ago FSU was an all-girls school, they won their first New Year's Day bowl 30 years ago. Now they are the linchpin of a P5 conference.

If they stay on their current track, I would be hard pressed to imagine that Boise wouldn't be part of whatever equates to a P5 conference in 20 years.

Damn good point.

However, that was a different era while FSU was rising to the top...before the astronomical revenue that exists today. The revenue gap between the P5s and G5s makes it almost impossible obtain a level playing field. Hell, even some of the P5s that received the same revenues can't compete with the big P5 boys on a consistent basis.

Unless a G5 has a Phil Knight or T Boone Pickens type to "fund them up" to a P5 level, they will constantly be swimming upstream IMHO.

Also a good point, but I'm not sure the current excessive revenue stream continues indefinitely. Nothing lasts forever.

Yeah, I think you are right. The first sign revenue may have peaked...or at least slowed down... are the declining cable subscribers (aka cord cutters) and the corresponding layoffs at ESPN.

And even if television revenue is split equally, there have always been (and always will be) schools that generate a lot more than others. No way TCU or Iowa State can ever match Texas or OU's total revenues. Ain't gonna happen.
