Boise State to a BCS conference ever? It didn't happen when the PAC-10 expanded, but wondering if the Big12 would look out West if they ever wanted to get back to 12 teams? Although I don't know what the Idaho market does for the Big 12.

Maybe the American? Is that even an automatic CFP qualifier anymore?

Probably not. SEC, ACC, B1G, and PAC don't seem to be inclined to add them. The only conference remotely possible is the Big 12 IF they expand to 14 teams from their current 10.

I don't think so although I'd love to see it happen. Boise is something like 12-3 against the PAC in the last decade or so.

Maybe if the P4 let the MWC take the Big 12's place when it dissolves, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

No because there is no BCS.
No the American is not.
There really isnt any Automatic qualifier. there are 5 that have greater access though.

When Boise joined the MW that was their best chance. The MW at that time was on the cusp of gaining an auto bid with the decline of the Big East.
a conference that included Boise State, BYU, TCU, Utah, San Diego State, Air Force, Colorado State, Wyoming, UNLV, and New Mexico. If they could have stayed together and went after 2 more for 12 and a conference title game I think they had a good shot. but there were no real other good candidates. the movement happened in 2010. MW invited Fresno and Nevada both coming off 8-5 seasons. not bad but not really good either. With TCU in the conference I would have went after Houston who was just 10-4 in 2009.
in the 2010 season the invite to Nevada looked amazing as they went 13-1 and Fresno again went 8-5.

if they all would have stayed conference with divisions of
West
Fresno State
San Jose State
Nevada
Boise State
UNLV
Utah

Mountain
Air Force
BYU
Wyoming
New Mexico
Colorado State
TCU

To me would be just as if not more deserving as one that had
UConn
West Virginia
Pitt
Syracuse
South Florida
Louisville
Cinci
Rutgers

Not a large enough school, not high enough endowment, no doctoral or similar curriculum, small football stadium, in a very small TV market with no major draw for recruiting visits by other members of the conferences you would have make an offer.

No slam on BSU. It's a fine institution. There are hundreds of awesome schools throughout the country that don't meet the high standards or provide something inviting for power conferences. There for sure are a few schools in power conferences that have been there for a long time that probably wouldn't be invited today if they were in BSU's position either. Being grandfathered in has it's advantages.

Their are far worse things than being the kings of the second tier. They have been relevant and played in some major games on very big stages. And won.

Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

No, problem with Boise is even in their region there are better possible options if the big 12 or Pac 12 decide to expand. Colorado State, BYU, UNLV (once they get the new stadium), heck even North Dakota State.

If the Big 12 expands it will be Rice, Houston, SMU, and UTEP.

Hit the nail on the head. The lack of a big market in particular is a killer.
