Corey was labeled a real pick to click at the time, as I recall. I guess there are a lot of them.
Best A ball player I've seen, I think.

One of the others, minus the power, was Gorkys Hernandez.

I go back pretty far on minor leaguers, late 50s, actually but I don't have great memories that far back. I did see a lot of AAA ball in the early 70s when the Brewers had a Triple A affiliate in Evansville.

Best I saw in Triple-A was Cesar Cedeno, who was one ba-dass hitter.

Befpre the Brewers came to Evansville (after the Twins and before the Tigers) the White Sox had a Double-A team there. Right fielder for Birmingham was Reggie Jackson. Sal Bando played third.

I just watch Midwest League games when I can. Dodgers, Blue Jays, Yankees, Rays and Tigers have all had affliates rotaye thru relatively close by.

My favorite player of all-time...........just look at my sign-in name.........It very well could be the greatest pitching performance in major league history of the 20 strikeout game.

The guy was on fire that day.........:

Kerry Wood had the most electric fastball I've ever seen for a couple of years. Then The Cubs rode him like a rented mule till his arm was shot to hell...the end.

I used to love Manny Ramirez. Not sure now.

Interesting quote from Tigers TV analyst Rod Allen during yesterday's game... He mentioned that besides getting into fantastic shape during the offseason, Nick Castellanos watched a ton of video, particularly video of Manny Ramirez.

True story man................Same as Mark Pryor.......after the 2003 season,it was pretty much a career for both of them.
What a shame.

My bro and I try to get to South Bend (Cubs) or Fort Wayne (Padres) once or twice a year. Both are very nice ballparks. I keep promising I will get to Kane County but never do.

My personal minor league team is the Gary RailCats (Amer. Assoc., independent) ... quality of play is similar though the indy leagues are more structured toward a team than the Class A teams, which are for developing players. Indy leagues are finding a niche, actually, and are a source of depth for affiliated teams now.

The college wood bat leagues are looking like a nice option. Plenty of them around.

Interesting quote from Tigers TV analyst Rod Allen during yesterday's game... He mentioned that besides getting into fantastic shape during the offseason, Nick Castellanos watched a ton of video, particularly video of Manny Ramirez.

I heard a report a week or so ago on MLB Radio that said he's signed with a Japanese team and that his contract includes some unusual perks including optional practices and unlimited free sushi.

He's one of the best right-handed batters of his generation and I always enjoyed his kid-like approach to the game. Made him a fun player to watch.

Honestly, it wasn't even the PEDs that turned me off of him, it was the report of him physically abusing a geriatric working in the Red Sox clubhouse. Of course, that could have been part of a PR smear campaign by the Red Sox front office, which I believe they make a practice of doing with team heroes that they're wanting to move, so who knows.

Disagree a lot.

Great game, but he hit Craig Biggio and gave up a hit, and the Astros did get a man in scoring position. In a perfect game, nobody reaches base at all.

Don Larsen's WS perfect game is the best ever.

Then it's a 22 way tie for second place.

I'm well aware of what a perfect game is. Doesn't make it a better PITCHING performance. All those guys needed defense to make plays in at least half of the 27 outs recorded. Wood only needed 7.

And he hit a batter and allowed a hit.

And he hit a batter and allowed a hit.

But Kerry Wood does have the best 20 strikeout game ever.

Clemens allowed a run in one, and 5 hits in the other and Scherzer allowed 2 runs.
