You seem to have info you are pulling the stats from. How many 5 star recruits were from Alabama from 2002-2006? And how many has the state had over the last decade?

The state has obviously had more in the last decade. You seem to think Bama would have been a lock to land them, when the facts don't back that up prior to Saban arriving. Also, Saban has signed more 5 star kids outside the state of Alabama then he has within the state. I answered your question now answer mine...

Do you think Alabama would have had the success they had if they continued to get 33% of the 5 stars and/or 23% of the 4/5 stars like they were prior to Saban?

You didn't answer my question. How many 5 star recruits were there in Alabama from 2002-2006? How many has there been from 2007-2016?

2002-2006 - 3
2007-2017 - 20

Now don't deflect and answer mine...

If we break it into 9 year increments since the data only goes back to 2000.

Between 2000-2008 there were 11.
Between 2009-2016 there were 16.

I don't know how to do it more evenly than that.

The answer to your question is common sense and I've said repeatedly Saban is the best recruiter in CFB.

Your answer though confirms what I've been saying all along -- location is a HUGE advantage. In 2007-2016 -- the state of Michigan had 2 five star recruits (3 if you include William Campbell, who was a 5 star on some and not on others).

In Alabama, they had 20 during the same time period. Even if they only signed 33% of the 5 star recruits, that'd be 300% more than the state of Michigan has even produced during that time period.

It truly blows my mind how a school like Georgia doesn't compete for NC's every year with the talent in that state and the minimal number of competitive D1 programs in state to go up against.

Obviously you don't pay attention much. They won 12 straight preseason natties until Harbaugh came to Ann Arbor.

And when the state of Alabama doesn't have any 5 stars Saban goes out and gets them out of state, something any coach can do. He's gotten 5 star kids from Cali, Hawaii, Kentucky, PA, NJ etc...

Right now, I absolutely agree he does that. It is akin to college players going into the NFL and getting to choose what team they want to play for. Alabama is, by far, the most talented team and the #1 football program, so without question players will flock to the school.

Saban is responsible for bringing the program to what it is right now. This whole conversation started because I said location of a program and in state/conference footprint recruits give teams a tremendous advantage.

It is also why I said he couldn't do at MSU what Dantonio has done. Why? Because he'd never get a single recruiting class at MSU like he gets on a yearly basis at Bama.

Please tell me UM fans weren't talking about anything while Denard and Gardner were the QB?!?!? That was painful to watch as a fan. :L

Was Gardner not yet in the conversation? He was supposed to be Tom Brady V2.0 or something like that :)

Where do you currently rank Harbaugh as far as CFB coaches? Do you have him ranked ahead of Saban, Meyer, Sweeney or Stoops? And before you answer this question (if you have the guts) remember all 4 HC's I just mentioned have a complete CFB coaching resume. Meaning they have won everything a CFB coach can. And Harbaugh hasn't accomplished anything.

If Saban went to MSU today he would bring in #1 classes there, provided Michigan St supported him the way Alabama does.

It's funny that you can't seem to grasp coaches get better over time.

If Dantonio was able to pull in multiple top 25 classes at Michigan State and Saban left for Michigan State tomorrow, I would bet he'd be able to land top 10/15 classes. Plus some of the best years Dantonio had were when the B1G was historically awful. 2010, 2013 and 2014 being prime examples. And I don't say that to take anything away from Dantonio, I think he's great.

I don't think you're giving him enough respect for coaching ability. In just his second year he had Bama at #1 in the country, playing in the SECCG. And these would have been the ranking of classes on that team:

2008 - #3
2007 - #13
2006 - #15
2005 - #21

So he either did it with a bunch of talented true freshman or upperclassmen that weren't that talented according to the recruiting rankings. Those aren't the type of rankings that should merit a team being 12-0 and ranked #1 in the country, unless they are being coached up.

Well he was only a backup, but only a Michigan player could win Heisman on the bench.

Well.. holy crap! One of the rules: No more than two foreign players per team are allowed on the field of play at a time.

No wonder he does so well.. he's like 3 feet taller than everyone else. It's like taking Bo Jackson on Tecmo Bowl.

That seems pretty racist (or whatever you want to cal it) of them to do that. Where's the protests for this shit?!?!?
