supposed to be a pretty deep draft this time around...

let's hope the new FO does it's due diligence...

A name that could take a huge tumble to the bottom of the first round is Harry Giles.

Perfect type of guy to roll the dice on that late.

Hell of a ceiling. But, he makes Embiid look like A.C. Green with that horrific, extensive injury history.

No way he stays in College with those paper mache knees.

I don't think that had anything to do with the changes. I believe this has been in the works for quite awhile.

You might be right. Jeanie actually apologized to Lakers fans for not doing it sooner. I think it's something she's at least been considering for awhile.

Because he's done such a superlative job with the Knicks...

TLF is right (first time those words have ever been typed lol), before he went to the Knicks, there were Lakers fans who wanted him to be the Lakers GM.

Being a successful coach doesn't necessarily translate into being a successful GM.

What happens if she and Magic don't do any better?

Not surprised at all. I've told people for years Magic has always wanted this job. He's been taking jabs at Jim Buss since his dad started grooming Jim for the job. His buttering up to Jeanie finally paid off. If he didn't have so many friends in the media, he'd be getting crushed for what was a pretty shameless coup. Regardless, he's got the job so let's see what he can do with it. Everyone has to be at least a little skeptical though considering both he and his GM hire have literally 0 experience working in a front office. The safer move would have been to hire a GM with experience or at the very least, bring in assistants from outside of the organization

at leaest we can see that Magic has a fully functional brain.

A guy like Corey Brewer is an ideal type of guy to take the young guys under his wing- a veteran- passed his prime- with one year left on his deal--- ideally- you wouldnt have had to take him back to preserve cap room for this summer--- but at least its only 1 year

THATS the type of guy and deal you go for when you want a savvy vet to train the young kids.

not giving freaking mentally fragile timo mozgov 65 million freaking dollars. lol.

Solid first move- even if the Lakers do not get to keep their pick- they at least have a first rounder now--- if they do get to keep their pick- they have a little extra flexibility and an asset they can spin at the very least.

I think Houston did well in this trade though- they give up a late first rounder- and get off Corey Brewer's contract- a guy who really wasnt even playing and was on the books for 7.5M next year.

Id give the Rockets a B+ and the Lakers a B on the deal.

Seems like to me to be a worthless trade even though it might help this year in the first round draft pick, but honestly I question if that's necessary, why not just let the kids play and keep Williams who will prove to be valuable next year? At what point don't you need to stop blowing up valuable assets for the long term? If you're saying Williams is not a keeper for next year, then I get the move. I am hoping, however that Magic Johnson proves to be as good as they all claim, but I am not convinced that this change wasn't a complete ambush. I am skeptical just a bit

Because getting 2 or 3 extra wins with Lou is not worth losing the first round draft pick

Yeah, I like the deal for both teams as well. Lou will be a perfect fit in D'Antoni's offense, the Lakers will now have at least one and possibly 2 first round picks and Brewer's contract doesn't cost them anymore money or years than Lou's. Win/win, imo.

So pulling him from the game isn't good? Honestly it wouldn't be that hard to lose games with what we got right now in my opinion. I don't think they even have to try to lose

This year? A first round draft pick that pans out, helps a team for years.

I like Lou, but he was never going to be part of the team when the Lakers are relevant again, he's too old. Also, as someone else pointed out, the only thing keeping Lou would accomplish is getting the Lakers another few wins that could ultimately cost them their lottery pick.

At what point don't you need to stop blowing up valuable assets for the long term?

What valuable assets are or have been blown up? With this team, Lou's best value was always in what the Lakers could get for him in a trade.

They can't do any worse.

Off to a good start...imo
I actually think the Lakers have built up some nice players even though they are pretty green, but I do think the cousins deal was worth looking at.

I would rather have the pick without Brewer to be honest. Seems like to me the Lakers made themselves worse. I get it that Lou is not in it for the long haul, but I think he could have been a nice bench player for another two or three more years. Brewer looks worthless to me and we're stuck with him for one more season.
