Ok, my instant reaction is that Magic is the figurehead/attraction/closer in meetings, Pelinka is the guy that has all of the relationships with players/agents, and Ryan West(Jerry's kid) is the one that does the leg work on talent evaluating. I need more info, but this could work

Does this open the door for Jerry West to come back and perhaps Kareem and Worthy in administrative way?

Looks like Magic will be overseeing things as we bring in a new GM to run the day to day. Holy crap
Should have been done long ago....the NBA needs the Lakers back on top.

I thought they had to do that to meet the new c b a min

Yeah, cause they couldn't land any big name guys. We all know how that Aldridge meeting went. Mitch's last great move was getting Pau, he hasn't done anything great since. I'm glad they're cleaning house. Excited to see what this new GM can bring.

They could have accomplished spending the minimum without handing out long term deals. And do you know what the penalty is for being below the floor? You cut a check for the difference to be spread among your players on the roster.

Goes a lot further - there is an interesting article and it explains it pretty good, but to summarized the Lakers failed to sign anyone over the years in quality free agents and they passed on some really good budding players.
Why Lakers' Jeanie Buss fired Jim Buss, Mitch Kupchak

I posted a link and Jeannie was upset that the Lakers gave away 136 million to two aging players and passed up on some really good talent like Isaiah Thomas. Carmelo for example signed with the Knicks because he didn't connect with Mitch or Jim and the same was with other players

Jeannie was also pissed that the Lakers wouldn't trade Ingram for Cousins - Cousins is a superstar that's ready right now.

Jerry West's son is also going to be on board in the office and be relevant

This has been a deal being processed for over a week and is old business, but what really sealed Jim and Kupchak's fate is when they could have had Cousins by letting Sacramento have Ingram.

I didn't think Jeannie would have the nerve to fire her own brother - I stand corrected and props to her for putting the fans before family. That was not an easy choice

hopefully ol' magic has a little more patience and attention span than he did when he wanted to get after it with the dodgers. gonna take some heavy lifting to get the lakers back to the forefront, that's for sure.

Got after it with the Dodgers? He was never intended to be anything more than a frontman for the Guggenheim Group.

I don't know if this timing is good or bad. Do they miss out on any deals as a result, or jump at an ill-advised trade without a GM in place?

Well, they just got a first round pick from the Rockets for Lou, so not a bad start.
