My position just in case I said something really late at night and didn't say it quite right is that Kobe helped the get the Lakers to the promised land five times to Lebron's two times. Not even Michael Jordan got those rings without help - it's a team sport. Lebron, however has had a talent for giving up in the final quarter of the game and not demonstrating the ability to be a killer and a closer like Kobe. Lebron is absolutely the most athletic player in the NBA and athletic wise may be the best ever in the terms of what his body can do, but the problem is that his mind does not possess the natural instincts and ball IQ that players like Shaq, Jordan and Kobe have had. The smartest thing he ever done was team up with Wade and Bosh - and I still think he should have stayed there.

Right, but then Kobe is sitting behind Robert Horry who helped teams to the promised land 7 times. How do you differentiate that? Being top dog? Lebron has led his team to the finals 7 times, and won 2. Kobe led his team to the finals 3 times and won 2. I guess it depends how important you rate being the 2nd best guy on your team in the finals.

Sure Lebron hasn't shot as many buzzer beaters as Kobe in the playoffs, and he hasn't shot as many game winners with the shot clock off. But he's made more.... Despite Kobe having played in more playoff games.

So is the closer the guy who we see jacking them up (Kobe is 7-28 there), or the guy who makes them (bron is 8-19)?

Or the last second Shots. Lebron with 3 in the playoffs ties Jordan for best all time. Kobe has 1, in the first round.

Or is Clutch being great in game 7's

Lebron 34 PPG (NBA record scoring average in game 7's), 47% shooting
Kobe 21.5 PPG and 39% shooting (23rd FG% of the 25 players to score 100 points in game 7's for their career).

Or Elimination games.
Lebron 31.5 PPG, 46% shooting
Kobe 21.5 PPG 41% shooting

Is clutch the guy who makes shots in big games and brings his scoring up another level? Or the guy who fades away in those moments and can't get near his career averages?

Remember, In Kobe's led championships he was 22-74 in the 4th quarter of the finals. The smartest thing he did was get another clutch big to win the 4th quarters in the finals (Pau was 20-34 there)

Late close (6 points) games in Kobe led finals.

Orl series

Game 2. Gasol Ties it with 30 seconds left. Kobe blocked by Turk to force OT. Kobe has 2 points in OT, only play on offense in the last minute is a turnover. Gasol has 5 straight points in the last 2 minutes.

Game 3. Kobe misses back to back 3's in the last 24 seconds. 1 point in the last 3.5 minutes, Gasol has 4 in that time.

Game 4 Kobe doesn't score in last 5 minutes of regulation. Gasol hits shot with 30 sec left and Fisher hits the big 3 to tie it. Kobe doesn't score in last 3 minutes of OT (2 misses), Gasol makes last 5 points.

Bos Series

Game 3 LA enter the 4th up by 6. Kobe shoots 1-6 for 2 points before two free throws when up by 7 with 10 seconds left give him 4 points in that 4th quarter. Fisher has 11 points.

Game 5 In the last minute, Kobe goes 0-3.

Game 7 Kobe's 6-24 night. Didn't make a FG in the last 15 minutes of the game. Gasol outscores him 5-2 in the last 3 minutes.

It's great he led his team to the finals and won them. But I can't call those performances in the close games anything close to clutch or taking over the game.... Unless you are talking about Pau.

No, Kobe was good in the clutch for his career but he was SO much better when he would get that kickout when Shaq got doubled and he was able to take advantage of a mismatched defense. When he had to create that mismatch later in his career, it got a LOT tougher for him in those big situations.

I just told you - it's a team sport - Good ball IQ means that players like Kobe, Lebron and others have to know when to shoot, when to pass to a player like Horry. Lebron has never demonstrated the ability to be a leader and a good facilitator. It's not about the 46% shooting to Kobe's 41%. Kobe has five rings because he passed it to Horry when he was shooting low and Kobe set Horry up to be winning shooter. Lebron doesn't and Lebron only has two rings

Lebron has indeed led his team to the finals seven times and lost five times. Kobe has led his team to the finals seven times and won 5 times. That's because he let players like Shaq and Gasol do what they designed to do and was a team player

Because letting Delladova and Eric Snow take over is the way to win championships...

I actually don't think Lebron is the most over-rated player ever though even though I get tired of seeing you guys suck his dick, but like Kobe and others - He has been over-rated some. Just goes with the territory

I agree that all players who reach that elite level are somewhat overrated.

Nobody wins a ring by themselves. Whether it is Magic, Bird, Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, Tim Duncan, LeBron whoever ....

They all needed a team to win their titles.

None of them can win a championship playing 1-on-5.

The did the same thing with Kobe as well - We called them the Kobe Kids because we didn't consider them old enough and mature enough to understand the nuances of basketball which I think describes the posters in here like lebronjames, Wiggy and a few others

So bc Lebron passed it to his worse teammates and they missed it he is overrated and not as good lol. Lebron has performed better than just about anyone in the Finals. It is crazy he has gotten to the Finals this many times in a row but sometimes he can only do so much, like he said, "maybe I would rather not make it to the playoffs instead of making it to the Finals and losing" but I think it is a great feat and now he has 3 titles.

I just love the way some of you guys piss all over yourselves when someone says something negative about your god.. I'm sorry, but I don't agree. Lebron is without a question the best player in the NBA today, but in his prime he is not as talented as Kobe was in his prime, but he did have considerably more athleticism and body strength that Kobe didn't have - quite possibly Kobe had so many injuries, may have been partly the reason, but Lebron simply has always been bigger and stronger albeit not quite the talent and Kobe had the same problem with lesser talented players to deal with

I get a kick out of watching the 'don't compare Lebron to my precious Kobe' Lakers fans.

I'm okay with that really - There are some things Kobe was better at while Lebron was better at others. Kobe was a selfish player and played to much isolation ball where Lebron played better team ball. Kobe was a better closer though in my opinion. It's hard to compare a guard to a forward in my opinion, but the Kobe kids thought Kobe was perfect and these children like Wiggy and LebronJames23 thinks Lebron is perfect. In a few years when some one else is better because Lebron is declining, the new kids will be saying the same thing about a different player.

At the end though - Kobe has 5 Rings and Lebron has 3. Five is greater then three.

You typed all that just to finish it off with a stand alone point dripping with insecurity. That's the stuff I get a kick out of.

Lebron is a better basketball player than Kobe was.
