I'm thinking that the answer is yes. Here's a guy who was considered the King before he entered the league, and the league/media has marketed him that way ever since.

The league now astonishingly is trying to create a MJ/Lebron debate, but if you look at his accomplishments so far (and his failures) it becomes obvious that he's nothing close to being in Mj's league or even Kobe's.

Here's why Lebron is probably the most overrated player in league history:

Let's look at all Lebron's failures first compared to JOrdan's.

Jordan's failures or underachievements:

Personally I can't think of any Mj failures. He won 6 rings. 6 Finals Mvp's. 2 Gold medals. Hit every clutch shot imaginable....And never lost in International play to inferior talent. And never lost to an inferior NBA team in the playoffs. In fact, MJ has never lost in the playoffs when having home court advantage.

Lebron's Failures:

2 Bronze medals which is a HUGE embarrassment to U.S.A basketball....Shot 33 pct in the finals Against the Spurs getting Swept in 2007.....2008, played horribly in 2008 playoffs against Boston in 7 game series, shooting 34 pct in the series....Failed to get to the finals twice in Cleveland while having the best team/home court advantage in 2009 & 2010 losing to lesser teams in Boston and Orlando....This was despite having a 67 win team and 60 win team...2011 completely COLLAPSED & Humiliated himself in 2011 Finals against Dallas..

Somehow the media and Lebron fans don't count his many failures against him. It's as if they never happened....LOL...

Lebron's SUCCESSES ...Yes he has some success in the league. However when you look closely at them, they're almost all either tainted, exaggerated or built around pure media hype...

4 nba mvp's...Sounds nice, but this is an award that is voted on by a biased PC media...Awards voted on by media is pretty trite, compared to awards that are actually earned on the court....The MVP more than any other award has been completely tarnished beyond repair. Consider that Steve Nash has 2 mvp's, and Nowitzki 1 mvp (3 combined), and Shaq and Kobe have (2 combined)...This makes the Mvp award essentially worthless. Kobe and Shaq should have 8 Mvp's combined. Enough said.

2 Finals wins.....Seriously how hard is to win championships when you have 3 top players all in their prime decide to form and NBA allstar team to chase rings. And 5 great role players that hitched along for the ride to win rings as well (Battier, Allen, Birdman, Miller, Lewis)...

Plus the 2 rings are tainted as well. One of the rings was during an ASTERISK season, (partial season, no training camp, no exhibiiton season). And the other ring, Lebron CHOKED his balls off in game 6 ONLY to be saved by Ray Allen....

Furthermore Lebron's finals appearences are a complete Embarrassment compared to MJ's....Statisitcally, lebron has never scored 40 points. He's never averaged 30 points. In 4 finals he's never shot 50 pct. Lebron has only shot over 50 pct in 5 games out of 22 finals games...Lebron holds the record for biggest underachievement (finals dropoff) from the regular season in 2011 playoffs..(as he dropped 11 points off his regular season average down to 16 pts against Dallas)...

Mj one averaged 41 pts in the finals. Mj never averaged under 30 pts in the finals. Lebron has never even averaged 30 pts in the finals...This is laughable. Enough said.

Lebron also now considered a great defensive player LOL...The media says Lebron can guard 1-5 positions...WHAT? The guy is an average to good defenisve player at best. He has trouble guarding the 3 spot. Anyone who watched the playoffs this year saw he couldn't guard George. He couldn't guard Danny Green.....During the regular season he constantly got lit up by the best SF's (Melo, George, Durant, Deng)...

Lebron's defensive stats are mediocre. He doesn't block shots (less than 1 a game). He doesn't make a lot of steals less then 2 a game. Plus he doesn't play physical defense/man to man defense as evident by the fact that he doesn't get called for fouls...Yet the media wants to call him a great defender? Why? Nothing supports this.

Jordan used to get over 2.7 steals a game. Sometimes over 3 steals a game. Jordan used to actually get more blocked shots. And there's no comparison to the way Jordan or Kobe plays locked down defense compared to Lebron who is pretty soft defensively.

Yet the media will replay 1 defensive block (in garbage time) against a slow, unathletic white guy, and pretend Lebron is great defensively...

Statistically Lebron puts up great REGULAR season numbers. However his entire career has been 1 choke after another. 1 disappointment after another....

Another OVERRATED accomplishment Lebron gets credit for....Taking a garbage Cleveland team to the finals in 2007....First of all, he got Swept in the finals shooting 34 pct. Secondly, the East was awful that year. Thirdly, did lebron really carry a garbage team to the finals? Well if so, what were Lebron's stats in carrying them to the finals? 40 pts a game? Nope. 25.1 pts a game, shooting 41 pct in the playoffs. Apparently the team wasn't garbage if all it took was 25.1 pts a game on lousy shooting to get them in the finals.

Jordan and Kobe won LEGIT rings, with the same organization, with teams built around them....They never secretly got together with other SUPERSTARS in their prime to chase rings.

They Earned their rings and they never shyed away from the big moments like Lebron has their entire career.

Considering that Lebron's 2 rings are completely tainted: An Asterisk. And a bailout by Ray allen. Considering how taking the 2007 Garbage Cavs team to the finals is a myth. Considering that the season mvp's are meaningless. Considering that he's not a great defender at all. Considering that lebron has been awful under pressure his entire career. Considering that he embarrased himself in 2011 finals and nearly choked away 2013 finals only to be bailed out by Ray Allen....I say YES it's ridiculous to compare Lebron a guy who's failed and choked and underacheived so many times to MJ.

Till Lebron wins some legit rings, without choking under pressure, without Wade/Bosh/Ray Allen, No ONES IMPRESSED...

And FORGET about comparing him to MJ....That's long over. Maybe the media forgives Lebron for his many chokes, and bronze medals, but any true basketball historian doesn't...

The guy is simply the Most overrated, over Hyped player in league history.

Sorry, but the stats don't lie...

Deal with it!!!

Peace!!!

Gotta disagree with Lebron being overrated!! Not because that isn't necessarily the case, but because he has many more years left to fill out his resume!!

In Lebron's defense (just threw up a little in my mouth typing that) he did drag a Cleveland team that really had no business getting past the 2nd round of the playoffs to the finals. Jordan wasn't able to do that when his Bulls teams had similar talent around him.

If Lebron's career were to end today and people wanted to include him in the GOAT discussion, then I agree that would make him overrated. However, he has many years left to put himself squarely in the discussion or to remove himself from it depending on how it plays out!!

Any discussion of Lebron as GOAT should merely be as a possibility, not as a fact at this point!!

Dammit Hammer!! See what you did?!? You made me defend Lebron!!!

In the sense that people are trying to anoint him GOAT this early in his career, absolutely. In the sense that he's considered the best in the game today, no. I would rather have Durant but there's not really anyone else to make much of an argument for.

The first poster really wanted to get a rise out of everyone. Funny dude. Gotta love selective stats. Compare the player efficiency ratios and filed goal percentage of Lebron and Jordan, and what you will find is that Jordan is a scorer (a Carmelo who also plays solid defense) who loves to shot the rock and Lebron is just a more balanced and well rounded player in terms of scoring, assists and rebounds. Lebron's career is far from over. Look, the Bulls minus Jordan were a game away from the Eastern conference finals. The Cavaliers without Lebron were a lottery team for 3 consecutive years. He is not ready to be given the "boat" or "goat" label as he still has many years to go, but at this stage in his career and for the seasons played, he is close to the other greats and he is doing it rebounding, assisting and playing defense on anyone. You also obviously don't watch the Heat much, because if you did you wold know that Lebron can slow even the best when he is playing the most intense (sorry you wont see it in the regular season). Now, go back to taking your Dwight billboards down and praying that the big man changes his mind.

SMan is a LeBron hating troll.

Very well said and well thought out response. He still has to learn how to play a full game IMO to surpass MJ. Statistically and athletically he is close. He needs to learn to compete every possession he is on the floor. He fails to get back on defense after offensive mistakes which leads to easy buckets for the opponent and allows the other team to start runs. Once he stops taking those defensive possessions off, he and his team will be on another level altogether.

Time will tell.

You really need to stop talking about this. For 1 thing, the quality of International basketball today so far surpasses the quality during MJ's day it isn't even funny. Up until 1988, USA was always able to win gold with college kids against everybody else's trained National teams.

Secondly, LeBron was 20 in the 2004 Olympics and played for a horribly put together roster full of ball stoppers and athletes with 0 shooting. USA Basketball was broken and that is not LeBron's fault.

Nobody in the history of basketball compares with MJ. He is in a class all by himself.

Lebron is a great player but there have been and will be many more great players. Lebron couldn't and never will hold a candle to MJ, but the same can be said about everybody else who has ever played the game so it is no slight to Lebron to say that.

Right now you are right. But Lebron is 28 man. Let's say he plays another 10 years. What if he does come back with 4 more titles? what if he gets 3-4 more MVPs?

Lebron could end up with 6 titles, 7-8 MVPs, the all time scoring leader.. a top 10 possibly even top 5 in assists all time. What then?

MJ vs Lebron debate isnt over.. Lebron's career resume isnt over. Jordan's is. Jordan is the greatest Ive seen play. But Lebron could get there. at the age of 28, he is AHEAD of Jordan.. and I dont think he is going to retire to go play baseball.

No one Cares about PER...Another meaningless STAT created by Espn writer recently...Irrelevant to a players greatness....All Lebron's Chokes can't be cancelled out by some meaningless stat...P.E.R...What about C.H.O.K.E in so MANY, MANY, MANY, BIG MOMENTS...

LEBRON shot 2 airballs and 2 turovers in the last minute of game 6 finals with the season on the line...He was SAVED by Ray Allen otherwise Lebron is 1-3 in finals...Saved and bailed out by Ray Allen...

And you're proving my point..."Cavs were a lottery team after losing lebron..." You mean after losing coach Brown. You mean after losing Delonte West. You mean after losing Varejo and mo Williams to injuries for the entire season. you mean after losing there 2 centers, Shaq and Z...

Essentially the Cavs lost everyone to free agency, retirement, and injuries (Shaq, mo willaims, Varajeo, Lebron, Z, West). Yet it's all because Lebron left not the other 6 guys...lol

Perfect example of being over-rated. Lebron gets all the credit, and none of the blame...

Not lebron's fault they got swept by S.A...eventhough he shot 34 pct...But gets all the credit for taking the team to the finals eventhough he only averaged 25.1 pts on 41 pct shooting...LOL

And NO lebron is not remotely close to a great defender. His man constantly goes by him like he doesn't exist. ...

Most overrated player in league history..

this is an interesting point. whenever LeClown's fans want to talk him up they'll always point to how fast the Cavs went into the dumper, but these other factors are never brought up...

This is my point Trojan. He did not drag a team to the finals in 2007...That's what Lebron fans want you to think...His teammates carried their own wait. Lebron actually had one of his worst playoff performances that year. He averaged only 25 pts in the playoffs on his WORST shooting pct in the playoffs at 41 pct.

Don't be manipulated Trojan.....Lebrons teammates all played great and carried their own weight. Plus it was a terrible Eastern Conference that year. Awful.

That's my point Chiefs...Lebron fans forget that Cavs lost 7 players that year...

And if Lebron is SO, SO, Important, how come Miami with only Wade on the team won 47 games in 2009-2010...However adding Lebron and allstar Bosh, they only win 58 games..

So Lebron and Bosh together ADD 11 wins to Miami....

If Lebron was so valuable surely Miami would've won 75 games adding the Great Lebron with Bosh. Correct?
