Both G and Ghost going under the knife for hip and "athletic hernia" procedures. A great deal of why G's game became so limited makes sense now. Add even the slightest upper body ding and it is a wonder he didn't curl up into a ball. He was playing this way for a while...stuck it out for the team. Ghost...that explains Justin Williams catching him from behind and the lack of skip in his short stroke skating in the offensive zone...yes, a lot of things make more sense.

Now lets improve the overall team/organizational depth so these two don't have to get worn down shall we? I think we shall.

Ah "advanced metrics". And I will bet that if you had asked someone to spell all of that out without relying on the numbers the "eye test" on the Flyers blue line this past season....it would have been nearly the same. What the metrics don't tell you is who was the players partner? When in the period or game were they on the ice? Who were they on the ice against? Just from having watched so many games I could tell you that Gudas handled the puck better than I think most expected ACCEPT when he was hit with a fast fore-check. Manning was okay as long as he was not out against top 6 forwards. Same with Schenn. Streit's skating was so impacted by his injury that it was clear he was not going to carry the puck but he was going to pass it...so all you needed to do was make him carry the puck by closing the zones and let your high man on the forecheck take the puck....

So yeah, the numbers are a nice story...but they don't tell the entire story. There is not way yet to fully quantify or enumerate so many aspects of the game that while the metrics are interesting and helpful...they are not and should never be seen as the final word.

I agree 100%. I know hockey is moving towards these advanced stats but I like you can watch a game and get a better feel for the game and what adjustments need to be made rather than relying on stats. Advanced stats are just like regular old stats there are ways to use them but that doesn't tell the whole story.

Did you capitalize a word to show that you purposely misspelled it?

Unfortunately I don't see this happening. Perhaps a Shark one would fit better? @DoobeeDoobeeDoo already lighting up the cigars and the other party extracurricular activities that hockey fans do?:dhd:

Might be far to stressful, and beings we are flyer fans, according to him we are fucked anyway.

Not yet, Mall. Unlike @Psych-Ward, I have been a hockey fan long enough to know how much tHockey Gods love to play with our emotions. I fully expect the Sharks to win on Thursday night, but tDoobster will be rooting for the Pens as always :doobs:

Yes Psych, I am stressed right now. One day you'll understand that things get more tense the closer to the Cup you get. I'm glad you decided to become a hockey fan, but I warn you that it's not for the faint of heart.
