Very, very interesting @Broncos6482

I love formulas and this is a good start. I think you could tweak this nicely and make it more effective. I think you should weight the winning % heavily for the last 10 years to make it more current. Thoughts?

Did the perfect season get 'em an extra point or 2? Seems like it should.
It did not. I didn't really want to get into that great a detail. It was enough work as it was just to keep it that simple.

Any way you could tweak it to put the Packers #1?

Well I was really trying to avoid any recency bias, I really wanted an even look at the Super Bowl era. Certainly if someone is inclined they could take the formula and tweak it and come up with a slightly different ranking. I considered doing something like points based on tiers, so if you win 9 games in a season, you get 1 point, 11, 2 points, 13, 3 points and so on, but frankly that would get way more in depth than I had time for.

Packers are actually 7th according to this but I do get what you are saying. They are hurt a bit by a lack of Super Bowl appearances. They seem to go on very long droughts of not seeing the big game and then have a couple of great years in a row. Yes I would have a couple of issues with this list as I would have a few times higher or lower but for the most part I thought this worked out close to how I would rank them.
It just reminds me what I'm getting into with the Chiefs. In the regular season, they have the profile similar to the Steelers and Redskins and in the playoffs they have a profile thats similar to the Lions, Falcons and Browns.

He stayed up all night trying.

He couldn't.

Sorry.
If I was really going to try something like that, it would be inventing a formula that has the Broncos #1 all time.

Well they have broken a lot of hearts. Do you read the site Arrowhead Addict at all? It is one of my favorites as they have a couple of writers that every off season it seems like the Chiefs are the greatest team the NFL has ever seen. I mean one of them the other day wrote an article about how losing Justin Houston isn't a big deal at all.

But SB wins and even SB losses carry a lot of points in his formula so that could push the Pats way up.

Exactly and it pads the formula in the Broncos favor in that they went to and lost 3 or 4 SB'S with Elway and 1 with PM...
If the 5 points were deducted for losing a SB or left at 0, would take 20-25 points away from them...Go figure !

So does a team deserve 0 points for making it to the Super Bowl? That seems a bit ridiculous. I can see arguing the 5 points but to give them nothing is a lot more ridiculous in my opinion.

Why would I take points away for losing a Super Bowl? Are you saying losing a Super Bowl is less of an accomplishment than not even making the playoffs?

@Broncos6482 Are you using a spreadsheet for the formula?

I got it. My NFL franchise ranking formula:

Criteria 1 - is the franchise located in Denver, Co? 10,000 points for Yes.
Criteria 2 - is the franchise located out of Denver, Co? -10 points for Yes.
Criteria 3 - is the franchise located in San Diego, Ca? -100 points for Yes.
Criteria 4 - is the franchise located in Kansas City, Mo? -100 points for Yes.
Criteria 5 - is the franchise located in Oakland, Ca? -1,000,000 points for Yes.

Megalodon30's NFL Franchise Ranking:

1. Denver Broncos - obviously the best
2-29(Tie). If you don't like an AFC West team, it's probably in this range somewhere.
30-31(Tie). San Diego Chargers and KC Chiefs - Boo!
32. Oakland Raiders - Super, mega, epic boo! Poo-poo, doo-doo franchise.

I did not. I'm not that smart. Or at least, I'm not familiar enough with it to pull it off and I didn't think asking a co-worker for help with an NFL team ranking for a message board while I'm supposed to be working would be a good idea.
