Archduke of Crosstown Busses
Lone QB on Denver's roster.
I'm getting mine, post-haste.
Lone QB on Denver's roster.
Fitzpatrick has always been one of the more underrated QB's in the league. He isn't top 10 or anything but he is a solid top 20 guy and has been for a long time.
Go look at his stats last year on the Jet's. 3900+ yards passing with an 88 QB rating. It is way better than what the Broncos got out of either Osweiler or Manning last season.
I'm not saying Fitz is the next Joe Montana....it is that he was and still is the best QB available this offseason. Bradford sucks. Osweiler is a complete question mark. I never considered Cousins available because you knew the Skins would tag him. What else are they going to do? Trade for Kaep or sign RGIII?
They are looking to repeat. He is their best option.
What was the Jets offer?
Yep. Yes, Houston offered him more money now, but long term his best chance of success was to stay in Denver. Maybe he'll still turn out to be a good qb in Houston, but he really left the perfect situation for him in Denver.
I wouldn't call it the PERFECT situation.
Most QB's if given the choice of which system they play in I bet you almost every single one of them would pick O'Brien's over Kubiak's.
Because O'Brien has had so much success with qb's? The only qb he's coached that was any good is Tom Brady. And Brady was good before he got there, and he was good after he left. Kubiak has a pretty great track record of getting the most out of qb's.I wouldn't call it the PERFECT situation.

And let's face it....in Houston there is going to be a little less pressure than there would have been in Denver. I'd rather follow Hoyer than follow Manning!
Why? What has O'Brien done in the NFL that warrants any praise?

Has he though?
All he really has to hang his hat on is Matt Schaub or Jake Plummer. Big whoop.
Obviously it is more than O'Brien at this point but like I said....at least O'Brien is a more modern guy.
Face it.....the Broncos season was a WILD success. But their offense was a complete failure on virtually every level. Kubiak took over a system that was one of the best in the league and made it literally one of the worst with his new system. Sure it was never going to be as good as it was because of the health of Manning and the OL falling off....but it still should have been better than it was last year.
What the hell will Denver do now?Probably didnt spell his name right
Matt Schaub, Jake Plummer, and Joe Flacco. They all had their best season (or seasons) under Kubiak.Has he though?

Hell even the running game, which really is Kubiak's calling card, was a MAJOR failure. And all that because he tried to fit a bunch of round pegs into his system's square holes. If he would have just scrapped his offense in week 1 and pulled out from underneath the coach cushions Fox's system from the year before the offense almost assuredly been better.
Based on Peyton's play this past season, I'd say it's more like playing in his shadow's shadow.IMO, I like the idea of Brock leaving Denver. If he stayed in Denver, he would have played in Peyton's shadow. This way he gets a fresh start.
The Broncos had just won the Super Bowl, have the best defense in the NFL, and at this point merely adequate qb play would be enough to make them Super Bowl contenders again. Instead, he's going to Houston where he has to be the difference maker. That's a lot of pressure.
Yeah good point, but had Brock stayed in Denver, he would have been compared to Peyton for years to come?Based on Peyton's play this past season, I'd say it's more like playing in his shadow's shadow.
Ok, so the defense will take a step back. But what does that mean, they go from one of the best ever to just one of the best next season?I know it is hard after last season not to look at your Broncos as being a premium landing spot.....but we all know the defense is going to take a step back (hard to be historic for multiple years). And that Houston D is almost just as good.
And I LOVE the Broncos WR's personally....but Sanders is going to leave next offseason in all likelihood and DT kind of looked like crap much of this season. And Hopkins looks like a freak in waiting.
And maybe Brock just ddn't want to play behind that OL again! They were awful.
As far as competing over the next 4 years the difference between Houston and Denver isn't as big as you think when you realistically look at it.
....
I am sure at one point after Houston got done telling Osweiler how much they love him that Osweiler's camp went back to Elway and said here is the Houston contract. Pay us that or close to that or we walk. When Denver wasn't willing to do that, do you really blame Osweiler for leaving?
