Rumors that I have read feel the `16 cap hit will be about $20 mil and the `17 cap hit will be about $25 mil.
Assuming those #'s are close and figuring in RW's $1.5 in earnings this year, Seattle would have him for 2015-2017 for less than $50M. In today's market that is a value.
I doubt it goes that way though.
I guess, but with no signing bonus, your just gonna piss him off. Regardless, if the cap hit is still above 20mil, extend him at 22mil on a long term deal and be done with it. Anyone who thinks this will not get done is crazy. Granted, i hope the Seahawks botch this and let him walk, but let's be real folks, that ain't happening.

Cardinal's have been looking for a long term QB solution since Jim Hart. Sure they had Warner in this twilight, but that's it. It's no coincidence they went to their only SB when they had a QB worth a shit. You don't let someone like Wilson walk.

I love when fans say this. You would be surprised what a few million dollars will do to one loyalty.

In most cases, yes....But there are a few that are not that greedy as to trade their dignity for money they don't need or will ever spend....
Joe got his 120mil contract and an MVP Corvette, got on the bus, went to McDonald's and had lunch...
He's a low keyed even keeled person.....Peyton Manning is very much like that too, took a pay cut with the Colts to keep some of his team mates and just did it again with Denver....
If up to him, he would have been a Colt for life, but for another drunken Irsay....

Seahawks 'have no desire' to meet Wilson's contract demands, team willing to 'play out the string' | Yardbarker.com

According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, the Seahawks are willing to use the franchise tag after quarterback Russell Wilson's final year of his rookie contract is up at the end of the 2015 season.

The team has balked at the $20 million asking price and it has been reported that the club could tag Wilson in 2016 and 2017.

Wilson's frustration has shown up via cryptic tweets pointed at the organization and according to Cole 'it's highly unlikely' a deal get done this season, and the team is willing to play out the string.

Serious question: when was the last time Cole hit correctly on a rumor?

No way Brees makes that hit next year. His dead money for `15 is over $30M but drops to just over $7M next year. The Saints can walk away from that amount if they wish. Expect Flacco to get restructured as his contract smacks the cap at almost $60M for `16 &`17 combined.
I don't think the highest 2 that will be setting the price for franchise tags will see those kind of hits when `16 and `17 come around.

I highly doubt they're going to end up franchising him. #1 it's a shit ton of money if they do, #2 he might get pissed and they'd have to franchise again, and #3 he might just decide not to show up to camp and then they're stuck with no QB going into 2016. This is nothing but a bunch of posturing by both sides.

How many QB's actually played out a season under the franchise tag? I think the only 2 that did were Vick and Cassell, right? Brees and Manning both resigned before the seasons that they were tagged in.

I don't think the Seahawks go the franchise tag route, unless RW is asking like 30 million a year, and I don't think he is. This will get settled this offseason, at worse at the end of the next season. No franchise tag will be used.

He must be using the wrong numbers, as there is no way that the franchise tag is jumping $7 million next year. According to ESPN, back in March, 2015 has a QB cap number of $18.5 million. Since the new CBA, the most the QB tag has gone up from 1 season to the next is $2 million ($1.6 million for '14 to '15). I'm not entirely sure what the numbers are that calculate the franchise tag, but I find it highly unlikely that 2016 will break the record for highest jump in franchise tag number by several times. I would say the franchise tag is closer to $20 million than it is to $25 million.

No, not really. Those numbers give 2015 a cap number of over $20 million, which isn't the case. I don't know which numbers they use for the franchise tag, but it isn't cap number (it also isn't base salary, since that would make the 2015 franchise tag less than the $18.5 that it is).

I believe the number is base salary + yearly bonuses (just not the signing bonus portion), or better described as the cap number minus signing bonus. When using that number, I get pretty close to this year's franchise tag number (or at least as close as any number I have used with 18.25 million) and next year's number currently stands at 19.6 million.

Never take a future cap hit that is more than 2 years out at face value. The cap is too easy to manipulate for distant future cap hits to really matter. The only time they are dangerous, is when you get in to a Steelers/Cowboys situation where 50% or more of the money on the cap hit has already paid to the player from constant restructures.

Who needs to be correct? This post is up to 11 pages so far.
So, Seattle is going to be crippled and
Flacco was generous with a $31 million cap hit?

Are homers allowed to post anything correct?

The worst thing that SEA can do is wait until AFTER Luck signs his contract before coming to a long term agreement with RW, bc there is no doubt that INDY is going to commit a shit-ton of money towards Luck, most likely top-3 richest in history if not the richest. That skews the Franchise Tag a bit and will only make it more expensive in the coming years. Would it surprise ANYONE to see Luck signed for 25-30 mil per? It wouldn't surprise me in the least and those numbers add a few mil to the annual Franchise Tag salary, especially if it is front loaded as I envision Luck and Wilson would want to have it for past services rendered.

Well that isn't good for the Seahawks. People can have whatever opinion they want about him but I'd say Wilson is at least as valuable as that guy.

if cam and wilson traded teams, one of the two would still be making the playoffs. let's stop pretending that the seahawks success is dependent on RW.

If I was fortunate to start a new NFL franchise and could choose between RW and CN, it would take less than a second to ponder my choice.
I would take the leader instantly over a guy that tries to remind himself he is Superman.
