What's up newbie?

Welcome to SportsHoopla!

You from Twitter? Just wondering how you found us.

I Googled "sports message boards" and this site popped up. I posted on ESPN a long time ago and decided to get back into it.

Selling. I think they'll be average, at best, until they hire an elite coach.

Pete Carroll isn't coming back. Jury is still out on Sark. We'll see.......

:agree: It's important to remember as well that Pete Carroll wasn't "Pete Carroll" when USC hired him. He was a failed NFL coach and Trojans fans and alums lost their everlovin' minds when he was hired.

Sark has been a head coach at 1 other program which had gone 0-12 the season before he took over. He got them back to being respectable. Now that the sanctions are over, I expect he'll get 3-4 more seasons to show what he can do. If he lives up to expectations, he'll be our coach for as long as he wants. If not, he'll be shown the door.

I think Pat Haden has shown what he wants to do with his football and basketball coaching hires. He wanted younger "up and coming" guys who will hopefully be around for a long time, rather than older "known quantities" who may bring more name recognition, but likely wouldn't be around as long.

Because of how you justified his hire. Insert Brady Hoke into that paragraph and you've got my justification 4 years ago.

Difference is that Sark has already coached at USC, so it's not unfamiliar to him and his previous head coaching experience was at a P5 school in the same conference, so he didn't have to adjust to facing better teams.

Also, when Pete Carroll was hired, he wasn't even Brady Hoke and that turned out ok.

Not saying that Sark is the next Pete Carroll (or even close), but 1 season at USC is a pretty small sample size.

Hoke wasn't an assistant at Michigan before he became head coach. Your justification sucks.

This really is important. Sometimes a coach doesn't get it right until later, so you never want to be too dismissive. I've been largely unimpressed by Sarkisian's body of work as an HC so far, but that doesn't mean he can't be good going forward. I wouldn't even put it past Lane Kiffin to become a decent coach sometime down the line. Pete Carroll wasn't Pete Fucking Carroll until afterwards. He was like the 3rd or 4th choice at USC.

Yeah, I thought Sark did a solid job at Washington. He didn't set the PAC on fire, but he made the Huskies respectable again. There were about 2-3 seasons where they kind of plateaued and didn't improve. They didn't get any worse, they just didn't get any better. He'll need to learn from that and avoid it (unless, of course, he plateaus by winning the PAC and making the cfp every year.)
