It isn't fear as much as dealing with the inevitable rise of a blue blood.

And to the other hand, is USC's apparent incompetence in HC hirings going to prolong the inevitable for this season? Next season? Or years to come?

This. Need new coaching staff then I'll start to take USC seriously. To me Sarkisian is really no better than Lane. I think usc needs an nfl type coach for them to work, not a college coach. SC one of the few places where I think an nfl coach actually fits.
