and magically the colts balls were fine....in that same freezing weather.

You don't know what Luck prefers for his ball pressure and he might have had it at the top end of the range. That being said:

Physicist: Cold weather couldn?t have deflated Patriots? footballs | Boston Herald

So the plot thickens! I'll wait to here what the NFL says though. Anybody that rides a bike knows that if you pump your tires in a warm house before a cold ride that you're going to be pumping them again after a little bit out in the cold.

does nfl have any repeat offender policy? i don't see them taking them out of Super Bowl or anything like that. doubt there is any punishment at all until offseason. sounds good but not likely. a hefty fine and loss of draft picks is probably worst it gets..even then for a team that often makes playoffs i don't see any of that hurting them really.

for all we know they blame equipment personnel and fire them. there has to be a link to patriots coaches or something for it to be a real serious case.

This is looking pretty bad for the Patriots. 11 of 12 balls found to be under inflated by 2lbs. If the Colts balls come back normal, is there any doubt what happened here?

The NFL needs to change their policy regarding game balls. Right now, the officials inspect the balls 2+ hours before game time & then hand the balls off to the ball boys. Those ball boys are team employees, so who knows what happens to the balls between then & kickoff. The NFL needs to treat the game balls like they do the K balls & lock them up after inspection.

So on a relatively warm evening with a game plan to run the ball over and over, this is when the Pats decided to make catching the ball a breeze.

:facepalm3:

Man, it must suck to hate the Pats.

There have better be a psi meter that the refs use to check the balls before the game.

If they don't use a meter ...then holy tempest in a tea cup Batman.

This looks pretty bad and also pretty stupid. I honestly don't think the deflating the balls is really all that much of a story in itself. Where the problem comes in, is how they got deflated. The refs check the balls 2 hours before gametime. Assuming they properly checked them that would mean someone actively bypassed league rules.

I just don't get why they would do something like this.

If the balls were that deflated it looks bad for the NFL since their officials handled all of them the entire game and didn't notice even though that is one of their tasks prior to setting the ball each play.

It looks even worse for the NFL officials since they were informed of a potential problbem at half time, was the only ball that was still at league requirements used the entire second half? Doubtful.

Furthermore, something isn't jiving since if there had be a full 2 lbs of pressure loss the ball would feel soft and make it harder to throw. For those of you that haven't ever played and thrown a ball a fair amount, you want a fully inflated ball, if not over inflated, to make it easier to throw a tight spiral.

Under inflation effects that ability and doubtful that was what was desired.

It's starting to look like this is a much ado about nothing again.

So now NFL officials are suddenly competent? Even more so, it is highly doubtful these officials handle the ball in such a way that they would actually notice the difference in pressure. Assuming they even have the capability to judge by feel whether the pressure is what it ought to be.

It has been explained - nearly ad infinitum - that the major advantage in shitty (wet weather, mud) soft balls are far earlier to catch, as well as much easier to hold, reducing the risk of fumbles. Probably in the weather during the game, that was FAR more important than the tight spiral.

Just heard a very interesting interview of Bob Kravits (sp) the original guy who reported this issue.

He is actually saying that BB should be suspended for the SB. So the guy doing the interview asked him about Rodgers and how he wants them over inflated so should GB coach be suspended as well in which he said no that is different... Wtf??

The last thing that caught me as weird. Do we really believe that the head coach of any team has anything to do with the conditions of the footballs? I mean does Darth Hoodie walk over to the ball boy and say hey listen take some air out for tom today please. I find that hard to believe that the head coach has any knowledge of what happens there. Perhaps Brady tells the kid but the hoodie??

Ok the hate for this Super Bowl is swinging way to far towards the Patriots. Richard Sherman needs to go on some outrageous rant again or new information about Pete Carroll being a dirtbag at USC need to surface to level the playing field a bit.
