Let's not act like a coach would never leave bama, even Texas A&M was able to steal a bama coach. If Texas can land saban, they have to go after him. If not, move on to the next canidate.

I dont think one person in here has been arguing that point, so this seems really random and throws up red flags all over the place.

They aren't infallible, and unless they got that list from Patterson himself, I highly doubt it's accurate.

Regardless.....how is it delusional to go after the best coaches in the land for arguably the best job in the land?

It's one thing to speculate......but when a job is staring you in the face......when you are being offered top dollar......top 5 city to live in.......top end facilities at a world class institution......top 3 recruiting bed in the nation.......tradition rich legacy program......and ALL the money in the world - thats hard to simply turn down because you already have a good thing going.

Like I said......when you have that kind of job to offer, you MAKE people turn you down.

and a fan base that will turn on you in a NY second.....

Small, he would ask for complete control of LHN if he was to negotiate a contract. He is all about control.

Curious which list this is from...

Texas is not arguably the top job. It is the TOP JOB.
Hate on Texas football all you want. This is not about the football on the field.
That is a reflection of Mack Brown's job performance. That is not a reflection of the job.
But the job is unrivaled.

Texas can pay a coach twice as much an anyone else.
Texas can pay coaches assistants like HC which helps attract great staffs.
This comes with NO STATE INCOME TAX further increasing the value from 7-15%.
The facilities are almost unmatched.
The tradition is top 10.
The recruiting base is unparalled.

That is just the job itself.

The city of AUSTIN is considered one of the crown jewels of "life quality".
It doesn't make all those BEST PLACES to LIVE lists for no reason whatsoever.
Warm weather, small town community with Big City amenities....wrapped in a booming economy that matches Conservative Fiscal ideas with Liberal Social ideas...
Some coaches don't want to live in some flyspeck backwater small redneck town.
They like having a major airport, fortune 500 companies, major law firms, teaching hospitals, public museums, established public transportation, rotating entertainment visits from top acts, established fine arts....etc etc....
But, Austin does not swallow you up either. Texas is still the #1 attraction in town. It doesn't have to worry about Kobe Bryant and the Lakers moving them to the back burner.
Only Columbus, OH and Austin, Texas are unique like that.....

Texas is not in the slightest bit delusional.
They probably have all the bigger NFL names on the list as well.

and there you have it folks, Texas arrogance at it's finest.....

I think Gray was ready to take the job, but after talking with Mack, he decided to bail.
Gray would take the HC job at Texas in a heartbeat. He would be the first black HC at Texas and make history.

It can be a bit overwhelming. The worst part is that much of it is true. Even the biggest Texas hater will admit Texas is a top 5 destination. I will leave it at that.

Supposedly if Saban comes, he's bringing the entire staff. If that happens, Major goes to Florida and restarts his career.

Dumbest move Major did was leaving Saban for Mack.

He still had to have been insulted by the hiring of Manny Diaz. He wanted the DC position and settled for the DB coach position when they attached assistant head coach and 425k to it. My point is, they hired Manny Diaz over a guy who has this as an NFL DC on his resume…

2001 Buffalo 21st ypg
2002 Buffalo 15th
2003 Buffalo 2nd
2004 Buffalo 2nd
2005 Buffalo 29th
2011 Tennessee 18th
2012 Tennessee 27th
2013 Tennessee 14th

Not great every season, but not bad either when you consider both of those teams had dreadful offenses that his defenses have had to carry. We're talking Drew Bledsoe and Jake Locker as starting QB's for most of those seasons with some Rob Johnson, J.P. Losman, and Matt Hasselbeck mixed in...

I love that it bothers OU and aggy so much that Texas is a top coaching job. It bothers them to hear us say it and it bothers them to know it's true. I don't think it is arrogance at work here, it is frustration that only 1 coach in all our history has been able to bring out the best in Texas as a program.

It's frustrating as fans, alums, and boosters that we do our part giving our athletic department every imaginable advantage they can dream up and we have 1 national title in 40+ years to show for it. We are bragging on what we helped build (no matter how small the contribution). An athletic monetary giant. What do we have to show for it currently? A mediocre football program, a mediocre basketball program bordering on bad, and a declining baseball program making it's way into the mediocre category with the other two. Now it's our turn to brag about what this school and city have to offer to a new coach so that we can hopefully have something worth cheering about again. If you don't want to hear about it DONT CLICK A LINK ABOUT TEXAS!!!

Their top 5 candidates are:
Nick Saban
Jim Harbaugh
Jimbo Fisher
Gus Malzahn
Les Miles

Why would any of the names listed want to leave their current position, especially the top 4? Miles has a daughter at Texas, so I can see that one a bit, but the others is just insane.

None of those will be the next coach. Check out Stanford University for a name.

My point in this is that if you give the keys to a man whose license is about to expire, he will be giving them back soon. If you are looking for the man of the future, you dont give them to a man who is almost the same age as the man who they are replacing, you look elsewhere for a man in his late 30's or 40's and work around the possible lull in winning for a year or two, possibly three. If that person doesnt make strides to improve, then you replace him. Proven winners are great, but they are usually older and more established.

I look back at the greats and not one was hired at age 60 or above to coach at a school that was looking at a proven winner, they were hired younger and turned the school into a proven winner. Quick fixes are nice, but if Texas is all that you guys claim it to be, then a guy who is young, energetic, has a good head for staff and can recruit and coach, should be able to make Texas a winner again. Anyone with money can hire a hired gun for a few wins.

Gundy?

Saban and Applewhite didn't exactly get along at Alabama.
