Hey Everyone Lakers. Kurt Rambis was hired today as an assistant coach as Don'tknowi begins to complete his staff and as I predicted. Good choice in my mind. Mark Madsen is rumored to be next!!

I read on nba.com, madsen was an assistant for the summer league team. So, would that make him a member of the staff or summer league only?

I've been saying all along that the Lakers need to hire an assistant to coach defense and let D'Antoni concentrate of offense!! Great hire!!

With the way these moves are being constructed (players and coaches), did Short Buss get smarter?

Or did Jeannie tell him to sit in the corner and she and Phil are now handling the basketball side?

Guys. From what I am hearing in LA, I am fairly certain that Jeannie and Phil are running things these days. Also, Jayviabay, the fact that he is on the summer league staff indicates he'll be signing a contract soon. The Lakers send their staff to run the summer league and then everyone signs their contracts for the year. So, yes on both counts.

Both Kaman and Young have been starters. Young averaged over 17 a game one season. Kaman has had some good seasons. These are not NBA scrubs. Is it that hard to separate them?

NBA Free Agency Grades: How did all 30 teams do?

By Royce Young | NBA writer

July 22, 2013 12:02 pm ET

LOS ANGELES LAKERS
Key moves: Signed Nick Young (one years, $1.1 million), Jordan Farmar (one year, $1.1 million), Chris Kaman (one year, $3.2 million)

Welp.

Grade: F

Like I said, lump them all together, then figure in who you lost or amnestied and you get this.

I'm not saying that the amnesty move was a bad one because it saved alot of $$ and he wasn't going to make you that much better anyway.

Also, I understand that the Lakers still have the available cap space next summer, but that wasn't the point of the discussion when evaluating their roster for this season.

They certainly get a F grade for losing Howard. However, Young and Kaman are not bad players. You can keep angling all you like, but these are not bad players. I'm curious to see how a more mature Farmar performs as well as how Wesley Johnson does when given a real opportunity. These players may perform better than you think. Excluding the Howard bit, the Lakers offseason so far gets a better grade than a F. Nice of you to glom on to a Royce Young article though.

It actually is important and was part of the discussion. Getting cheap short term players for this season in order to save cap space for next summer was a major factor in who they could sign.

Never said they were bad players but they are not difference makers. There are "not bad" players on every team in the league.

I already told you exactly what I think. .333 on the road and around .666 home.

What do you think?

Excluding Howard?? HE was all that did matter. The others are just common names/players that appear in the FA pool every year and fill out rosters.

They actually had no choice because they had no cap space even with Howard leaving.

Are you implying that they wouldn't have liked to keep Clark?

Pretty sure you called them scrubs.

I think they are a fringe playoff team that could be better or worse depending on health.

I said they get a F when considering Howard. He didn't sign. However, considering their options, I think they've done as about as good as they could since.

leaving.

No kidding. Not sure why you are trying to create an argument here. They did have a choice regarding the length of contracts offered.

Are you implying that they wouldn't have liked to keep Clark?

I'm sure they wanted to keep Clark, but it was obvious Clark would leave for more money. He turned a two-month good stretch into a nice payday. His production dropped significantly towards the end of the season. Not a huge loss, unlike Howard.

This was another quality signing of a one-year deal at the vets minimum. Tell me players are still not attracted to playing for the Lakers. Onward we go!!

You guys act like these scrubs the Lakers are signing are turning down offers/ more money from other teams in order to play for the Lakers. Not the case, is it?

This was the original post/response on the matter.

We have already agreed to disagree on what the definition of a scrub is.
Let's remember, CL inserted the "pathetic" part.

What I was most responding to was the part about the players choosing the Lakers as it was implied that they chose them over other teams. As of now, I still havn't seen any other OFFERS that were made to any player the Lakers signed.
That doesn't mean they wouldn't have chosen the Lakers if the had other offers. It just means we will never know because they didn't have any.

Actually, you were the one implying it, because you are the one who said it.

A pathetic scrub would be IMO the ones at the end of the bench (on most teams) who never play unless it is total garbage time. Both Young and Kaman are not in that role and are that bad, however, neither is any type of difference maker.

Every team has players like them.

Are you actually trying to say that you have not DIRECTLY insulted both people and players on sports threads?:L

I for sure have, but was NOT in this instance.

Those types of players are what they are. Call them dime a dozen, call them scrubs, call them whatever you choose but it all adds up to the same. Non difference makers on almost every single night.

so? haven't YOU? LOL, the FACT is this is a direct insult at the Lakers players. quit trying to candy-coat it. accept the blame for once...

oh, please...

ok, well then the Heat have been a bunch of scrubs 'til midway through the first decade of this century. and oh btw, there's no other way to take that OTHER than an insult. see the difference? i'm not gonna deny it...UNLIKE you...

what you say is the last part. no one would call you on it IF you just say that. calling them scrubs can be seen NO other way. not MY fault you can't see that...:L

How do you know this? We aren't privy to everything that happens in the front offices. Nick Young's agent said he could have gotten more money elsewhere. Farmar had to get out of a more lucrative contract to sign with the Lakers. I'm sure a center with Kaman's ability could have found a bigger paycheck.
