Go Bucks!
I had real doubts about Urban Meyer when he was hired at Ohio State. The program was a mess and Urban had just come from a mess in Florida. I was not convinced he would be the guy to clean things up.Why would you ever believe in Meyer? He wins games. He isn’t your priest. Being a coach doesn’t make you a good person. Come to think about it, most great coaches are not great people.
I think during his year off he made a conscious decision that if/when he came back, he would not tolerate the junk in his new job that he had in his previous stop. The things he did in the beginning - suspending players for peeing outside a clubhouse at a golf course, taking half of Storm Klein's senior year because his girlfriend made up a story (she later admitted this), Carlos Hyde 3 games for nothing, etc. gave me some hope.
I think the thing that I have seen that impresses me the most is the off the field stuff he has done with the team - "Real Life Wednesdays" where business leaders and motivational speakers come in; every player has to have a resume completed by their junior year or they can't play; they serve in internships with several companies to give them real world experience and lets them network with businesses - - - not all of these guys are going to the NFL.
I know that Urban Meyer is far from a saint. He is extremely hard on his assistants, especially when it comes to recruiting. I am sure he is a POS to work for. Many stories float around about him and I don't doubt that most of them are true. That being said, I'm not rooting for a church choir.
I am still extremely ticked that he didn't come to B1G Media Day with the following statement. "We dismissed an assistant coach for reasons not related to job performance. I will not discuss personnel matters of that nature here. I am here to talk about the 2018 Buckeye Football team. Thank you."
