Why would you ever believe in Meyer? He wins games. He isn’t your priest. Being a coach doesn’t make you a good person. Come to think about it, most great coaches are not great people.
I had real doubts about Urban Meyer when he was hired at Ohio State. The program was a mess and Urban had just come from a mess in Florida. I was not convinced he would be the guy to clean things up.

I think during his year off he made a conscious decision that if/when he came back, he would not tolerate the junk in his new job that he had in his previous stop. The things he did in the beginning - suspending players for peeing outside a clubhouse at a golf course, taking half of Storm Klein's senior year because his girlfriend made up a story (she later admitted this), Carlos Hyde 3 games for nothing, etc. gave me some hope.

I think the thing that I have seen that impresses me the most is the off the field stuff he has done with the team - "Real Life Wednesdays" where business leaders and motivational speakers come in; every player has to have a resume completed by their junior year or they can't play; they serve in internships with several companies to give them real world experience and lets them network with businesses - - - not all of these guys are going to the NFL.

I know that Urban Meyer is far from a saint. He is extremely hard on his assistants, especially when it comes to recruiting. I am sure he is a POS to work for. Many stories float around about him and I don't doubt that most of them are true. That being said, I'm not rooting for a church choir.

I am still extremely ticked that he didn't come to B1G Media Day with the following statement. "We dismissed an assistant coach for reasons not related to job performance. I will not discuss personnel matters of that nature here. I am here to talk about the 2018 Buckeye Football team. Thank you."

If I'm right and both Texas and Ohio State make it to the playoffs this would be an interesting game.

Yes...we like our coach and we are going to respond to attacks on him and the University. I believe in Meyer (and Tom Herman for that matter) and will so until I have a reason not to..and Ohio State will be fine.

It's fine to respond, it's not fine to be a victim of tribalism and point fingers at the rest of the world for a self created PR problem. It's also not a good look to have all the local media painting a possible domestic violence victim as a crazy bitch. None of us know the true story, but she doesn't deserve that until it's proven she made it all up. Then by all means, go after her. What if Zach Smith is an abusive asshole who beat her up regularly? Ever think about that?

edited to add, and to act like a former coach on your staff with multiple former members of your staff did all this over a fucking recruit is retarded too.

I believe in the way Meyer runs a football program. I don't need the coach to be a Priest.

It's not hatred for Urban Meyer, I think he's an outstanding coach and thoroughly enjoy watching his teams play. I don't hate Nick Saban either, I respect greatness. They are both great and it's a lot of fun to watch their teams play. Ohio St is not a rival of Texas. Ohio St only occasionally comes into Texas to recruit. There is zero reason for me to dislike Ohio St anymore than any other college football team.

And I have no idea why you are playing the "we don't know" game. We know plenty, only you guys are getting off into the weeds about minute details. That really don't matter.

Here are the things we know are all facts.

Smith was arrested in 2009 for aggravated battery of a pregnant woman. Victim dropped the charges.

In 2015 the police were called a couple times and nobody went to jail.

They divorced in 2016.

In late 2017 a criminal trespass warning was issued to Smith.

In May of 2018, he violated that warning.

He is fired in July of 2018.

So, when Urban got up in front of the media, he denied knowing anything but the 2009 stuff. Then his statement turned around and said he was caught off guard by the question and pushed all this stuff up the chain of command.

Everything I stated is a fact and we know plenty. All the text messages and accusations don't really mean anything. In this day and age, the facts alone would doom a lesser coach without a doubt. It is what it is, Ohio St will do what they want to do.
This is exactly where we really don’t know. It was reported the cops were involved in 2009. But the victim never pressed charges. There was an incident in 2015 where the victim didn’t press charges. The police reports McMurphy claimed were later edited in his report,. McMurphy has reported several misleading pieces. Which he later edited without retractions. There’s also reports that make it look an awful lot like the Smiths had an extremely complicated relationship.

By definition Snooks report is about as reliable as McMurphys. It’s kinda odd when one uses McMurphys report as tho it is fact. Yet dismiss another report via social media based on. But he’s an OSU grad. Herman declined to answer the questions regarding his knowledge. Due to the fact he’s with another program now.

Urban doesn’t effect me nor SC either. But the use of Meyers name elevates the story on social media through reaction alone. I’m not about to claim McMurphys report as factual. Nor can I say Meyers didn’t follow the proper procedure. Or know the entire nature of the Smiths relationship. Which i could see as being very hard to read. But this is getting into the dynamics of Social media responsibility. Monetary gain whether it be being paid for a story or gaining employment. And the concept of kangaroo courts.A lot of speculation and assumptions

McMurphy's report just opened the can of worms. The actual discovered facts stand alone without his report. All the police stuff is a matter of public record and have been obtained by multiple media sources at this point.

I'm not even calling for Urban's head for violating procedures. I have no idea if he did or didn't. I'm simply saying Smith should have been sent packing at Florida in 2009 and for sure in Ohio in 2015. Any player on his team would have been as treat women with respect is a core value. Coaches should have to live up to the same rules. Does Urban need to be fired? I don't know, I guess it would depend on how he has handled this behind the scenes. If he handled it appropriately and only lied to the media to try and keep a lid on it, maybe firing isn't appropriate. But if he has been covering this crap up and not following procedure? See ya. God forbid any of these incidents occurred on campus, Ohio St could be looking at major fines.

This is part of the problem. It’s not about believing in Meyer. You could insert smh name even Tom Herman. This could even be a coach who is a saint. Why should the focus be on a coach and based on opinions of said coach. Rather than the actual issue? Zach Smith did something wrong. But to assume Meyers knew everything based on a reporter that has been far from reliable........ I can’t say I’m surprised to see another social media journalist. “ breaking” the Tom Hermsn story....

Here is what we know:

McMurphy changed his story (without explanation) as facts upon which he based it were correct. ==> Shenanigans.
The Powell Police paperwork changed after the initial story came to light. ==> Shenanigans.
Urban Meyer admitted to lying at Media Day, but now under investigation, can't comment. ==> Shenanigans.
Snook's story (about Herman) has been denied by all parties. ==> Shenanigans.
The Ohio State University allotted 14 days to investigate, because opening day poses a harder deadline than actually exhausting all leads. ==> Rather overt Shanaigans.

It all adds up to one thing over and over. Shenangans.

That’s the thing everything McMurphy has reported has been edited. And debunked including the actual police reports. The thing about social media is it can be used for good as far as reporting. But it can also be used the wrong way. To get ahead at the cost of someone else without accountability. What if snook is right and Herman did leak the story. Or fail to report the abuse while at OSU?

There’s an awful lot of assumptions and double standards atm

You are still focusing on the source instead of the now known facts. If Herman failed to report abuse, he is no better than anyone on the Ohio St staff. I have zero issue with Texas sanctioning or firing him. People will learn one day to not look the other way when it's your buddy if you want to keep your job.

The way Herman and the reporter worded things, it makes me suspect that he is indeed the source, but just not directly. Maybe Herman and his wife told someone, who in turn told the reporter? It sure seems like they were friends with the abused woman, and they admit to helping her financially. Maybe they also helped her get the word out about dirty Urban Meyer, without getting their fingerprints directly on it.

No city has zero crime. Minor crimes have to be investigated and written up to.
"All monkeys are the same size" theory.

Some people (organizations, police forces, etc) that don't have any big problems aren't happy unless until the elevate their little problems into big problems.

Well, I personally would want my police force taking the minor issues the city has seriously. If they don't, what are they there for? Draw a paycheck?

So we all agree Herman should be fired, as well as Urban Meyer?!? Just cleanse CFB of the OSU trash!!
I know you are being cynical and sarcastic, but I was thinking along these lines today.

I hate to make generalizations, but I came to the conclusions that EVERY program probably hires some coaches and recruits some players that they have known questions/history regarding character, ethics, behavior, etc. And they do so because those people are real great coaches and athletes. It is worth taking a chance on them.

If the Herman’s paid Courtney Smiths legal debt as “reported”. It would be kinda hard to believe Herman didn’t know like he claimed....Curious if this becomes part of the investigation
