i dunno man. Toronto did win 60+ games and was the #1 seed. You gotta give DeRozan some credit there. Its not like he was playing with Durant or LeBron- he was playing with Kyle Lowry and Jonas Valunciunas. Getting high seeds and winning playoff series is hardly something to be just thrown away as a mediocrity.

Regular season in the East is one factor. Another is his career long issue with playoff production. Career .410/.235 shooter in the playoffs. $27.7m per is just too much IMO, and not someone I would want to build my team around.

Willie Reed, Ezeli, Alex Len, Okafor, Monroe.
even like Quincy Acy, or Beasley, or Tarik Black (he used to bea laker right?), Nick Collison, Speights,

or go get a big on an expiring contract from like the Kings--- giving the Kings a second round pick for like Kosta Koufos would be freaking amazing for them. Or giving the Bucks a 2nd rounder for Henson or Zeller. Or the Hawks for Muscala,

Ed Davis did not get hardly anything from the Nets--- id much rather of had him than McGee.

They're projected to have 65M in space. However, I would guess it takes at least $25 to re-sign Dinwiddie and Russell, so you're down to $40M, less than 2 max.
you can wait to resign Dinwiddie and or Russell until after you sign your FA's and those 2 guys cap holds will be far less than $25M...and as @bksballer89 said- why even keep Russell if you can get Kyrie?

I was answering your post which mentioned keeping Russell, or are you losing track?

Well you suggested he would cost more than he will- as he would only cost his cap hold if they would hold off on resigning him until they got the guys they wanted-- which they would absolutely do- or just let him walk and renounce his rights.

27M is expensive, but its not insanely expensive.

For example, Mike Conley is making like 35M a year. IF the Lakers strike out on say Kawhi/Klay etc. and want to sign Kemba- Kemba will cost much more than 27M a year. In today's league 27M a year for a guy like DeRozan is actually fairly reasonable.

look at all the wings/young players on the suns--- Booker, Warren, Ariza, Bridges, Jackson, Chriss....pretty cool. Suns are just loaded with young talent. its pretty crazy.

dudley, chandler, and knight are up soon too--- they should have some money to jump into free agency next year.

One good trade, one good free agent signing, and a year or two to let the young guys develop and the Suns could be a perennial Western Conference Power.

Something that is being lost in the McGee signing.

They signed him away from the Warriors.....since they are lining up a team to combat the Warriors.....McGee may have been signed to play AND to also give them insight to HOW

And I loved the Rondo signing.....Hart will get his minues.....I doubt Ball plays 82 games, more like 60 or so. If he doesn't get dealt.

I doubt Rondo plays 82 games.

The Warriors replaced McGee with Boogie.

Spin it however you want, I believe this is more the Warriors allowing McGee to walk then McGee choosing to go to LA over Golden State.

Knox, Carter Jr. Mitchell Robinson and Anfernee Simmons surprised the hell out of me at Summer League.

They all need work.

But, they all have major talent and upside.
This lotto was loaded...to think that talents like Sexton, both Bridges, SGA and Knox went after pick 7 is incredible.

I don’t give a fuck how he gets his points, I’ll take a guy who averages 23 ppg on 17 shots per game, all day, every day.
He had a 3 pt shot going in the first half of last year before it tanked.

If the Spurs (and Chip Engelland) can fix his long range shooting for an entire season, your only problem is the fact he plays defence like the Polish Army.

Everyone on the lakers but Lebron is an expendable role player. At this point last year everyone was saying the exact same thing about PG. The lakers decided to use this strategy you laid out and it failed. At the trade deadline, if I were the lakers, I’d try to trade for kawhi. There’s always the chance he goes to the Clippers or 76ers. Heck, he might get comfortable in Toronto. People’s views change over the course of a year. It’s not a certainty that he signs with the lakers outright.

Also, they are not a contender with kawhi if the dubs are still around with KD, Curry, green, and Thompson/Boogie.

You are right to a point, but here is why you are wrong.

There are some nice pieces there. Pieces that would fit very well alongside LeBron and Kawhi. Because those two by themselves is a great start, but it isn't enough to challenge GS.

Kawhi got dealt to the perfect landing spot for the Lakers. There is very little chance of him staying there long term. In 2019 the Lakers will be the front runners to sign Kawhi without giving up any of their young pieces.

A couple weeks ago I would have said hell yeah. Make the trade happen. Now, there is literally no reason to do it. Not to mention that the Raptors want to try and win the East this year.

The fines would be his salary - $17.5 mil, pro-rated for the games he misses. Considering he's already down $50 mil because he didn't sign in SA and would be down another $30 mil if he doesn't sign in Toronto (plus whatever lowballing offers the team he eventually does sign with gives him because "uh, we really like you but you haven't played in two years and this is a lot of money" becomes a real prospect), maybe he should just nut up and play.

All I am saying is that Kawhi is unlike any player I have ever seen.

I have been saying all along that money isn't his motivator while others kept saying he would eventually sign the super max in SA. But Kawhi is a different kind of dude. I don't think he will choose to sit out most of the year. But it wouldn't shock me if he did.

I would prefer Brooklyn be good before the Knicks---- that would be okay with me.

With those 2 first rounders and all that cap space they just might be......

One thing though- is that the Knicks with Porzingis, Knox, and Ntilikina do have a nice step up on the Nets as far as talent goes.....Porzingis is a star when healthy and knox looks like he could be a tobias harris like player- maybe even better eventually.

Knicks also drafted Allonzo Trier who looked really good in spurts during the Summer League. Herzonja is a wild card too. He played really well at the end of last season and it'll be interesting to see how he grows.

I think you’re mistaking Kawhi wanting to play where he grew up with kawhi wanting to play for the lakers. He’s also said he’d consider signing with the 6ers. It was weird when Lebron signed with the lakers, suddenly the clippers became an option. That tells me that the Lakers aren’t even the front runners.

I'm sure comparing Demar's contract to the worst one in the NBA proves much?

Kemba is pretty limited as a "team-leading" player as well; I wouldn't give him the max either.
