They are younger, but that's asking a lot to jump from 11th in the conference to 8th when the teams ahead of them aren't getting worse.

They're currently 9 games out of being 3rd in the West.

You realize that's a lot of games right? 9 games out with 20 games left. That's not a lot of time. Not only would the Lakers have to keep winning at a high percentage, every team ahead of them would have to collapse in embarrassing fashion to make up the difference.

This is in response to the notion that some people think it's impossible for the Lakers to be a 6-8 seed next year.

Yeah, it may be a bit of a catch-22 for him. If the Lakers land Lebron and PG and he takes less to stay and maybe win championships, he may never get another chance to make get the kind of money he's likely to be offered.

On the other hand, if goes for the money, he may never get a chance to win a championship again.

Tough choice.

And I don't know anything about his back story. What was his childhood like? Did he come from a rough neighborhood, or did his family do well financially?

That could play a big role too. A player who grew up poor is more likely to cash in as big as he can, and rightly so. Somebody who had an affluent childhood is more likely to consider other factors too.

Actually, my bad. Eight games out of the 3rd spot now.
....and 6 games UNDER .500 with 20 games go.

Good fucking grief.

At least pick a winnable, legitimate argument.

Denver's magic number is somewhere around 14.

That's wins by them and losses by the Lakers combined and you are mathematically eliminated.

Exactly. Such a lame argument

True. I really don't know anything about his background either.

He did just recently become a Dad, so I'm sure that will factor in as well. But will it factor in as "I don't want to uproot my new family" or "I want to get as much as I can for my new family"?

You guys really don't get my point, do you?

I never claimed the Lakers would get the #3 spot. Heck, it's take a damn miracle for them to even have a sniff at the playoffs.

Uh, I guess I don't.

What was your point?

That it's not impossible for the Lakers to be a 6-8 seed with this current team next season if they keep playing the way they have the last couple of months

I don't get the analogy.

But, ok...fair enough.

I think it's possible, not probable unless a few of the Teams ahead of them blow it up, have a catastrophic injury or the Lakers land a star.

Denver is #8 and all of their top guys are young, sans Milsap.

Murray, Beasley, Jokic, Harris, Lyles is a pretty good group of young talent.

Best bet to lap them is to add a star or hope they lose Barton, Chandler in free agency.

Yeah if the Lakers don't land a star and lose IT (which is a lock), seems highly unlikely they're in the top 8 next year without a catastrophic injury to someone on one of those 9 teams ahead of them

Yeah, unlikely.

Not, impossible.

Yeah, unlikely.

Not, impossible.

But using this year as an example is still a flawed argument. You'd have to assume that every other team in the league stays with the same roster and injuries with only the Lakers improving.
