Most of it is execution, or lack-there-of...
The big differences between a WR and TE is that a TE is expected to block bigger people and a WR is supposed to stretch the field.
Jimmy has a lot of talents but he isn't a field stretcher. He doesn't have that kind of speed. If he's put out wide and covered by a CB then you are essentially conceding that he will be covered and hoping the QB can put the ball in a place that the CB can't reach because he is presumably much shorter than Jimmy.
When he would split out wide for the Saints it was usually part of a 4 or 5 receiver set. The whole point was to create matchup problems. But keeping him out wide doesn't make sense.
Because Jimmy doesn't have the speed to run receiver routes and is not a great route runner to begin with.
He's great value is being mismatched against a slow LB or safety. Or matching up against a corner in space. Pinning him against the sideline or having him run crossing routes takes away almost all of his real value.
Maybe he could be a WR in a spread offense where you can put him all over the field and force bad matchups but not for our offense.
With his size he doesn't have to be a total burner on the outside though,
Fade route all day, Jimmy doesn't have to have more speed, just go up and get it... what's a under 6 feet corner gonna do ? They will have to double him and it will open up other stuff... We can't just continue with what were doing, we gotta try it...
Well he can do that from the TE position. TEs aren't required to be part of the blocking scheme.
I also think his blocking issues are being wildly overblown. I'll take his inconsistent blocking over the nightmare at LT and RG we have been watching.
Offer him to houston for duane brown, straight up.
I agree with you that the OL situation is a mess, which is why blocking support from the TE position becomes more integral. In this instance it is required to become part of the scheme due to the incompetancy if the OL. At this point I would rather have a permanent blocker at the TE position instead of a offensive receiving weapon.
You want us to have 6 OL? Completely disagree with you there.
You don't build your offense to throw contested footballs.
We need the OL to be better and the running game to continue to improve. If we can't do that then PC needs to change the game plan.
But that forces team to double Jimmy on the outside, because if you don't you can just throw it up to him in certain situations... Giants made a living off that with Burress, Jimmy is around the same height, about and inch taller than Burress.... Man we gotta try something, because right now, it's not working...
Why is anyone thinking we could get anything beyond a mid round pick for a high priced 1 year rental TE? We certainly aren't trading him for a quality starting offensive lineman 3 weeks into the season.

Because in fantasyville, all trades go in the Hawks favor.
Brown is still holding out on the Texans so what do they have to lose. A trade for Graham could work out very nicely for them and they could work out an extension.
We need to execute better. That's what it boils down to.
Because they can have both next season if they want
