Tuesday 6/6, Wednesday 6/7 and Thursday 6/8 are the first Mini Camp Days of 2017. This is a Mandatory Camp and all 90 of the players on the Patriots roster will be in attendance.

The media will be allowed to attend all of the workouts.

Game pads will be worn and not the little soft practice pads. These will be full contact practices.

Practices will be at full speed and the QBs will be wearing red "No Hit" jerseys.

According to what I've seen, these will be full day practices on the field and in the classroom.

You can't make the club if you're in the tub............

Two players were NOt at the OTAs last week.

Hightower and Mitchell.

Boston Herald says that they will be the two guys to look for on Tuesday at the Mandatory Mini Camp. Why?? Because BB and the Patriots staff are extremely cautious with any injuries this early in the season. If they are on hand, it will be of no concern. If they aren't there, then the question has to be asked.....What's the problem??

Just a reminder.................this week is not an OTA. It's a mini camp. OTAs are not full padded or full contact.

This is the team's first full practice in full pads. There be hitting and tackling.

Things to watch for:

1. Running backs - In the OTAs Gillislee did NOT line up in any of the passing drills. Will he be in for passing downs this week or is he going to be a pile-driver?

2. Brady/Cooks - Brady and Cooks have worked out in the dome. No media, no one other than Brady, Cooks and the coaching staff. No one mentioned this until they started talking on BST. It got got heavy discussion on the Podcast. No facts, only speculation. No one got to see anything, no one even knew it was going on.

3. WR Sets - During the OTAs, the WRs switched in and out and the media had no idea who was going to be playing anywhere on pass plays. While everyone believes that Edelman is the slot guy, he was on the outside with Hogan on the other and Cooks in the slot. On one 5 WR set, Cooks and Hogan were way out, Amendola and Carr were 3-5 yards inside them and JE was the TE.

This is going to be a very interesting mini camp. I'm going to convince my wife to let me drive down to watch at least one full session. The best part is that we will not have any sunny days until the weekend. It's supposed to be cloudy, cool (low 50s), showers all week. Perfect weather for the warm weather guys to get a feel for Foxboro climate.

Looks like this Mini Camp is off to a good start. Both the WR and CB are making plays. Brady looking sharp, no Jimmy G. Guys staying late to work on pass rush.....mine as well soak it in before we have nothing till camp.

JG has a calf problem. That's not good news for him as far as the Pats are concerned. Brissett has stepped in and has looked outstanding for a second year player in this system. Vets were giving him huge cudos yesterday.

Brissett might make it easier to trade JG by the deadline.

I'm not sure you would get much for him though at the trade deadline. He is on the last year of his contract so a team would have to make a very quick decision on signing him to a long-term deal after just a few games. Throw in him having to learn an entirely new offense in a matter of a week or two just doesn't fair well for him finding any kind of success.

Teams do get desperate though so who knows.

Yeah, Philly learned the hard way last year when they traded Bradford for a measly first round and 2nd or 3rd or 4th round pick...

Yeah, that wasn't exactly at the deadline, but by the end of camp BB will know if Brissett is his guy or not...

Big difference between trading in the offseason and trading half way through the season. When a QB actually has a month or two to learn the offense compared to probably 5 days before the next game it makes it a little easier to trade at that point. Throw in Bradford had more years left on his contract and with the Eagles taking on all the guaranteed money it made his deal team friendly. With Jimmy G. you are talking about possibly only 8 or so games with him then he can hit the open market and be gone. Not exactly the situation you want to trade a 1st round pick for.

The Bradford trade was 1 week before the season. My counter argument was the team would know about Brissett by the end of training camp, meaning that's when they could trade JG. Of course there are differences.

Also JG CANNOT hit the open market unless the team allows it.

I forgot it was before week one. There is still a difference between having a QB the entire season and getting them half way through the year. IF they did trade him right before the season because they like Brissett then yeah probably could get a pretty good return. Still not what some were talking about earlier this offseason before the draft but probably still get a 1st or 2nd round pick.

As for JG you are right he can't hit the open market but the team would be making a huge investment in him to force him to stay. Say they didn't want to give him a big contract like he could probably get on the open market well the only option they would have is Franchise Tag. Which that wouldn't be the worst thing because you get another year to view him but it is definitely not cheap.

Especially if they lose their starter in camp or preseason.

Right but see this is where the storyline of where this conversation started has changed. At first it was trade deadline which to me drops the value quite a bit to now before the start of the season. I still don't think they would get what they could have before the draft. With each passing day the value drops for how much a team would want him. Yes somebody could get desperate because of an injury but the giving up a 1st and more right before the season starts is a very rare thing to happen in the NFL.

Most of the big deals are done before the draft or at least before training camp.

As far as the Patriots are concerned, everyone else hopes the big deals are done. Never, ever state something as a fact. As soon as you do, someone will blow it up.........

There are at least 4 teams who are heading into training camp with huge questions about the quarterback. If those teams start to shit the bed, JG just might be an option they'd be willing to spend for.

See... You are taking this discussion too narrowly. He's on the team now because the team thought the value of keeping him was greater than anything they would get in return. That value may have been as a potential future starter, or it may have just been the surety of having a starter quality backup for what seems to be another super bowl run.

The team will never look back and say we could've gotten this or that... It's all about the value at the moment. If they were certain Brissett could provide a super bowl run surety, they may have dealt JG. If they only get a second rounder AFTER they're certain of Brissett... To them they got better value than whatever was offered in the spring.

Can't disagree. The only other factor I haven't heard addressed yet is a team that's in contention. A late injury to their QB (trade deadline) may warrant them giving up a nice stash?
