I have a serious question: Why are any of you even watching these Golden State games? My team got to the final 5, in any other sport you would at least think they had a chance to take the ring. But not the NBA, it's pro wrestling with the outcome determined last summer when Durant signed.
Because some of us are more than just casual fans.

But that's just it, there was no reason to believe that game would be even close to competitive. In fact the entire NBA season was scripted when Durant signed. The regular season feels like preseason and the playoffs are just killing time until the inevitable GS/Cleveland matchup.

If you watch sports for a different reason than to see who will win well that's fine, your choice. But let's not pretend it's sports, it's an exhibition.

Um, no, watching the best athletes in the world playing games at the highest level is a pleasure in itself. That's sports. There's more to it than just who wins the title. People that only follow the games to see who wins are called gamblers.

Being a fan means being part of a tribe of like minded people, with memories of past games and players, and enjoyment watching your guys play well. And many fans even enjoy watching great players do great things on teams they don't root for.

I'm a Warrior fan but I love watching Westbrook and James and Wall and IT and all the greats play great.

Thanks for the reply. Oh of course I would be watching if the Wizards were doing this, just as an Alabama football fan would watch all 4 quarters of their 79-0 thrashing of Vanderbilt. But why would the USC fan have any interest in watching that game?

To me the best thing about sports is you never know what's going to happen. We watch the Super Bowl because we understood that there was still a change the Giants could upset the undefeated Patriots. But in the NBA? The Warriors are the Harlem Globetrotters, great fun to watch but it's really not a sport when you know the outcome.

Basketball is definitely the sport where upsets happen least. That's the nature of it. Some fans drift away for that reason, but to many there's much more to watching the games than just finding out who won. Seeing all time greats like Curry and LeBron do things that have never been done is plain old fun.

I agree wth what others have said, but also, we don't know what will happen.

We might think we know that GS and Cleveland will advance, but someday in the future many of us will be posting on these boards or telling grandkids about the greatest teams of all time. The Warriors may likely be among them.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Shaq/Kobe Lakers dominate even though I was rooting for their opponents in every series. It is easy to appreciate greatness if you are a true fan. Even if the great team/player eliminates your team.

I understand some fans like dynasties and others, like me, root for the underdogs. . But that does not mean the majority of fans don't want actual competition, you know tune in to see who wins. The hard cores like you guys apparently don't need that. But it's just nuts to claim that only gamblers care who wins or loses when games are played.

Last years WCF and finals is a perfect example of this...who saw the Warriors coming back from down 3-1 to win the WCF and then turning around and blowing a 3-1 lead to lose the finals?

Has that ever even happened before?

The Cavs may also be among them. We at least know Lebron will be part of that conversation.

I think you may have misunderstood the gamblers comment that someone made.

In the grand scheme of things, my Lakers aren't winning a title this season, so I really don't care who wins. I am pulling for the Warriors or Spurs in the finals, but that's more about my own fun and interest than about actually caring who wins. Mainly, I just want to see great basketball played at a high level.

However, if I was a gambler and had money riding on the outcome...I'd care very much about who wins.

As for dynasties...I like them. When it's my team having the dynasty, I like that for obvious reasons. When it's a team I don't like, I like to root for the underdog.

Yeah I get that and I did understand the gambler part, at least I think I did. But to me I watch sports to see who wins, as do most fans. 40 point leads are of no interest to me and that was exactly what we should have expected in Game 2. And yeah most all of us picks a team to pull for once ours is out, again why watch if you totally don't care who wins?

Sure I can turn it on to appreciate Kevin Durant and all the Warriors can do but again to me it's like turning on the Globetrotters to appreciate Medowlark Lemon. If you are going to watch just to appreciate the greatness of the players, and I still firmly believe they are the greatest athletes in the world, and not care that you already know who will win then it's an exhibition and not a sport.

I'm not getting much support here because this board is full of hard cores who look at it your way. But to the majority of sports fans my thought that knowing the end results diminishes the interest is not such a crazy thought.

Yeah, the Celtics/Wizards was fun because it went 7. But it was a lot of bad basketball.

Who'd have thought that, outside of that one, the Cavs sweep of the Pacers would be the most competitive series. lol

There has only been one time in NBA history that a team doubled up the opponent - regular or post season. Cavs could do it tonight.

Cavs are going to beat the Warriors. The regular season means nothing. They turn it on defensively in the playoffs and even Korver is playing good defense. They shoot it better than the Warriors from 3. Oh and they have LeBron.

Won't happen. LeBron may not play more than 5 minutes in the second half. It would be dumb if he did.
