Most of the stories about Ty Cobb were fabricated or altered by a jaded journalist. He wasn't a saint, but he wasn't near the asshole people tend to think he was.

And just like all revisionist history...

Not nearly as many stories about Cobb were exaggerated/fabricated as people have now been led to believe.

The truth is somewhere in the middle of both extremes. Meaning, he was still a terrible person. Just not quite Satan in human form.

grienke has had some bright spots in his career, but he is a mental case waiting to implode.

Eh... People don't just get unanimous reputations as being horrific pieces of shit out of nowhere. I think it's a little more than "not a saint". lol. That still implies "Okay guy with some flaws".

Depends on your definition of "monster".

Beating up a guy with no hands makes him at the very least a complete and total pussy. I don't care what the guy said to him or if his buddies were egging him on, you don't kick a guy's ass that's virtually incapable of fighting back. That lowers you as a human being.

It's a shame he could never stay healthy. He had two really good half seasons in San Diego, but that's exactly what they were... half seasons.

Pretty amazing that he led his league in HBPs two years in a row despite failing to play even 120 games either year (86 in 2012).
