How in the world can a school which is academically excellent, with a gorgeous campus located in swanky Westwood, and a campus so packed full of Asian hotties its often called the University of Cute Little Asians fail to recruit well?

My god! How many more advantages can you possibly be handed???

Only 1 commitment is a 4 star, only 18 commitments, and they dropped about 25 spots from last years ranking.

How in the hell do you only get a single 4 star commitment as a PAC 12 program from the state of California? You should be accidentally getting at least 5 per recruiting cycle and at least hit your scholarship limit.

UCLA signed 19 recruits and only one was a 4*. The rest are all 3* rated. That's pretty bad for an LA school. Both LA schools are in a tailspin atm.

Schools in the PAC 12 that have more than a single 4 star commitment from California (247 sports): Arizona State (4), Oregon (4 4stars, 1 5star), Washington (7), USC (5), Stanford (4), and Utah (3).

Schools in other conferences who did equal to or better than UCLA in receuiting 4 star talent or better: Texas (2), Oklahoma (1), Michigan (2), Florida (1), Clemson (1), Notre Dame (2), South Carolina (1), and Boise State (3).

Sadly they were not the only school, California came out with ZERO and had to catch a kid out of JUCO for their only 4 star (may have went to hs in Cali but didn’t research).

So UCLA went 1/58 while Cali had a goose egg.

Could be worse, could have won a ‘National Title’ two years ago and be in a talent rich state like Florida and go home with none of your states top prospects...

I'm a bit surprised Cal didn't recruit better. They have a pretty solid coaching staff. I'm wondering if all the wierdo freaks that attend that school are a factor in athletes shying away from there. Berkeley is a pretty messed up place these days.

It's on the shit side of the bay. Nobody wants to go there, not even people who live there.

That's true, but man their campus is beautiful (stadium too in an old-school way).

My oldest daughter took her first college tour there, but ended up back on the east coast.

Chip Kelly was never a big recruiter. That is why UCLA over Florida was a head scratcher. At least in Florida he could minimally recruit and still end up with a Top 20 class.
