Yankees melting in the Summer heat....

On August 1st, the Yankees were 58-45 and were 5 games ahead of BALT and 6 games ahead of TOR. Since then, the Yankees have gone 11-12 in August to fall into 2nd place. They still look to be a certain playoff team with a dominant back-of-the-bullpen, but there are a lot of questions with this team now. Perhaps their age seems to be catching up with them?

I guess Mark Teixiera won't be the MVP and Michael Pineda won't win the Cy Young after all.

Playing sub-.500 ball in August isn't a great way to make the playoffs. Sure, Toronto is red-hot, but the Yankees have basically gotten out of their way this month.

Inevitably, you can't count on guys like Arod and Teixeira to carry you all season at this point in their careers. I think Cashman needed to acquire some reinforcements at the deadline. Guys like Hamels/Price (and/or Tulowitzki) should be in pinstripes. Those are moves that George would have made happen in his day. All those guys switched teams in July and the Yankees just watched it all go down.

Another Bat would have been nice. Pitching has been fine. Before the previous 2 games, starters had an ERA in the low 3's for the entire month. Offense just been shit pretty much all month which is the main issue

Leaving plenty of guys on base with less than 2 outs isn't going to win you many games. CC done for the season doesn't help. Not that he was a difference maker, but he ate up innings. The Yanks are in trouble. Injuries, older players=age catching up to them, and a thin lineup is not going to get you far.

Blue Jays won and scored a zillion runs last night. I'm pretty sure they are the best team in MLB right now. I'm not sure about that bullpen, but that lineup cannot be stopped.
