Was Hart mainstream, though? Sure, smarks loved him, but he had ZERO mic skills and his character was bland af. He was Benoit before Benoit was Benoit.

You really don't think Hart was the face of WWE during that timeframe?

He was. But he couldn’t fill Hogan’s shoes on a mainstream scale the way Austin did or Rock could have, or how Cena is trying to. Hell, even Poffo had more mainstream epoeal than Hart did.

Don’t get me wrong. I liked Hart. His face/heel stance was very unique, even to this day. And the respect he held in the locker room was second to none. But he just wasn’t a guy who could carry a billion dollar industry on his back.

I’m sure we’re just arguing semantics, but he did it.

I mean no guy carries it himself, you need guys to fight. But Bret kept wwf rolling When the other top guys were diesel and the undertaker.

I think the Undertaker may have been the greatest heel, he was much better as the dead man than this biker.

Frank Gotch
Lou Thesz
Vince McMahon Jr
Andre the Giant

I think these four have changed the business that molded it what we have seen over the last 30 years.

Frank Gotch was the original World Heavyweight Champion from the United States. Either Gotch or Hackenschmidt (or however you spell Gotch's rival's name).

Lou Thesz was the first one to make it appealing to watch on TV. He had the look and the athleticism.

Even though McMahon has the power and all, it was him taking pro wrestling from regional promotions into a nationwide thing. Controversial no doubt, but it had a huge impact in the world of pro wrestling.

Andre the Giant was the ultimate attraction. He was larger than life, Nobody can really replicate him. There was just something unique. He is the standard for "giants".

Just for fun, Sting's Mt Rushmore:

Who would be on your Mt Rushmore of Pro Wrestling?

“Andre the Giant, gotta have him there. Hulk Hogan, for sure. The Rock and Ric Flair.”

i think you'd have a better case for Austin if Hollywood Hogan hadn't beaten him to the punch.

Just ran into this the other day.

So iconic.

Not sure many guys listed throughout this thread had the range to pull this one off.

Hogan made wrestling main stream popular, its asinine to not include him. He built wrestling up to its most popular not once but twice in the 80s when wrestling was pop culture. Than again in the 90s, when he made the most popular faction in wrestling history, by turning heel. Flair is also a no brainer. The Rock will be more famous for his movies than his wrestling career. The other two are arguable.

I changed my perception on how i view, Hogan and Flair would be on wrestling mount Rushmore. I look at Jericho as being the best mic guy and great wrestler. Old Undertaker was the best heel.

Rowdy Rod Piper was far better on the mike than Jericho. So was Flair, Hawk, Austin, Rock, Dusty and many more. Of the ones I listed, Rock is the only one that Jericho could challenge on in ring ability.

i think hogan and taker are the only slam dunks for me.

Flair probably should be.

Vince is the 4th if it’s all of pro wrestling and not just superstars

What? Piper has always been one of the most overrated. Jericho has been great for many years in all the organizations.

Hogan is not on mine because of his in ring ability. That is not diminishing his contribution to the explosion of the WWF but I can think of several guys that would have done at least as good at that time in the WWF given what Vince was doing at the time to revolutionize the wrestling industry. IMHO were Sting to have been at the WWF at the time, Hogan would not be in this discussion.
