The reason I wouldn't give them both up is because what if they BOTH end up being a franchise player, and you've given them both up rather than having the opportunity to keep one & pair him with Kawhi.

The counter to that is what if neither become a franchise player? Then you are stuck with 2 good players, but don't have what you need to be a contender. You become one of those teams stuck in 5-9 seed purgatory because you passed on this deal.

I do, however, like the idea of giving up one and pairing the other with Kawhi. Not sure there's a way to get that done (at least not in a trade), but it would be cool if it happened..

This is why I heart you.

Knowledgeable, articulate and fair....even when we disagree.

Which is why you have always had my respect.

I would do the deal, if Kawhi is proven healthy and willing to extend.

I think having him onboard is a better sale to George and LeBron.

But, what you and a few other Lakers fans are saying has merit.

I Don't think Kuz has hit his peak. It's still possible for him to get better.

*see Dame Lillard who was older and keeps improving.

But, he's the exception, not the rule.

I also see star potential in Ingram.

But, Superstars don't grow on trees and I would rather the known commodity.
Thank you for the love - and ditto on my end!

All EXCELLENT points you bring up. No matter what trade is on the table it's always a gamble because of things like injuries - recurring injuries more specifically. I see superstar potential in both Kuz & Ingram and the fact that they have them both right now could pay dividends later with some patience.

Since they're in rebuild mode right now I don't think they should take this trade (I know this is hypothetical) because Lonzo is really still developing as well. Worst thing IMO is if they were to let them both go & then you have Kawhi with an inexperienced Lonzo that could end up looking like a waste of Kawhi's prime years if the expectation is to win now.

I agree with your first statement, but it's a gamble either way. So, having invested time already I would just stay the course. IMO two options is always better than one - and in this case they have two guys that could turn out to be really good/great players.

Makes sense.

But, you'd still have about 60 mil in cap.

Still, no guarantee you can get the right guys to complement them.

But, it's a fun debate.

Over the last few days there is alot of rumbling about Kawhi and the Celtics. If its for Brown, Horford, a first rounder I would relunctantly agree. But we would still have a hole at the 4/5 IMO. Maybe its Smart or Rozier vs Horford. Seems Irving and Kwahi know each other well and worked out in the offseason, so maybe there is mutual interest.

Kyrie, Hayward and Kawhi would be awesome.

I am telling you.

Brown and Tatum is better for both sides. No hole at the 5, and you don't need Brown and Tatum if you have Kawhi, Kyrie, Hayward and Horford.

The other thing I don't think you are considering:

It isn't just about the Celtics. Fultz, Saric + pick is a more attractive package for the Spurs than Horford, Brown and pick. If Ainge sits on his hands here and allows Philly to get Kawhi, Boston will forever be second best in the East.

Yeah I would not make a trade just to guess what the sixers do. And like I said, Tatum and Brown are doing this, in the playoffs as well, being first and second year players. Kawhi is not a game changer for us, A Davis is. Eye on the prize

Well, good luck!

I can assure you, Danny Ainge will not have the same idea. He thinks big. If he can get Kawhi, he will. And your package of Brown and Horford isn't enough.

And no, you make the trade because it makes you better. You are overrating your guys, just like those 2 Laker fans. They are very good, but neither is Kawhi. Your championship window starts next year if you get Kawhi. It may never open if you stand pat. All you have right now is a collection of really good players. Kawhi is a superstar and you don't have 1 of those.

This. SA would want Tatum and Brown.

You know, we are known for collecting injury-prone talent....

I would need 100% guarantees on his health and a team friendly extension.
Then we can talk trade.

You are high as a kite if you think the Spurs would make that deal. A late first rounder, a 31 year old and Jaylen Brown? You would "reluctantly" agree to that?

Simmons was speculating that the Clippers could offer Beverly, Harris, the 12/13 pick this year and a top 3 protected pick in the future for Kawhi. And he wasn't sure if that was enough.

I honestly don't know what trade the Sixers would be willing to make to get Kawhi that would bring him in.

Probably something like Fultz/Saric, plus the 10 pick plus some more. I would imagine the Spurs would ask for both Fultz and Saric and I'm not sure the Sixers would do that.

I agree if we're talking about Kawhi pre-injuries. But, I would have to wait til the deadline to see what he's looking like before I pull the trigger on this. IMO there's a reason he's only played 9 games this season & all we know is he had a quad injury. Have to think there's more to his injury than what's been shared.

Jaylen Brown isn't 31.
