As the title says, would you take him/be happy with the selection of Tyrann Mathieu with one of 2nd round picks? 34th pick? or our other 2nd rounder, 61st pick?

I'm really starting to think he doesnt fall as near as much as some say he is going to. (I've seen some predict 4th round) He is just way too talented. Right now I think he could be gone by in the middle of the 2nd round. It could be a little risky if we want him and try and wait until our late 2nd or 3rd rounder.

I really like Matheiu, but there is no way I'd take him in the 2nd. I don't think he will go until the 3rd at the very earliest.

How come? Off the field stuff or not a believer in his talent?

Both. I've known too many junkies, and their brains are all fried. They become complacent and useless.

It would be one thing if he had the athletic abililty of a Patrick Peterson, but he doesn't even have great athletic ability. At 186 pounds, he'd better be a speed demon like Desean Jackson. But he's not. Add that to the fact that he's a junkie who already thinks he can cover Calvin Johnson (he has the attitude that he's ALREADY great, which means he doens't have to do anything to get there), and you have a huge pain in the ass.

I'd be hesitant to take him in the 5th round. I might even pass in the 6th depending on who drops.

Depending on who drops, I would draft him in the 5th. His intangibles, feel for the game, and nose for the ball are all things that are undeniable. He may be a Bob Sanders/always getting hurt kinda player but when Sanders was in the lineup, he was electric.

Too much baggage for third round for me. I'd strongly consider him in the 4th if he got there, and I was confident enough he wasn't going to become a drug addict as soon as he cashed in his first paycheck.

A huge question is can he cover big players consistently?

In the 4th you're really getting good value for his return abilities.

The problem I have with taking him in the third round is we will likely be comparing him against other guys at need positions without the character risks who have a good chance of becoming full time starters in the future. There should be DE prospects there, a few CB's, and maybe an OLB who could step in immediately as a third down specialist.

I don't think you draft him for his ability to cover big bodies, he's a nickel guy all the way and I think can excel at that. The question for me is, what round would I be comfortable drafting a nickel corner. I think I could be talked into using our late 3rd rounder on him.

I wouldn't take him in the 2nd but I would in the 3rd. If he was there in the 4th I would sprint to the podium but he won't last that long. He is the premier slot corner in this draft.

I think Matthieu will be a Ronde Barber clone if used correctly. The guy just has great instincts and a nose for the football. He will be one of the best coverage nickel corners in the NFL, that will also be able to blitz effectively. People also forget that this kid will be a special teams ace on both coverage and return units. lol Plus we all know Jim Harbaugh is very fond of honey badgers, so this might be the perfect fit for us.

Sign me up for using #61 on the Honey Badger.

31. J. Cyprien FS
34. C. Carradine DE
61. T. Mathieu CB
74. D. Rogers WR
93. B. Williams NT
