He needs a complete evaluation done on the back. If nothing of concern is found, run his ass out there and play ball. Beltre has shown what a leader does when he feels minor discomfort and probably we have too. So if Choo is not suffering more than a little stiffness he should be out on the field being a leader.

No structural damage after a recent MRI. But at 34? This is not promising.

Rangers' Shin-Soo Choo: Not in Friday's lineup

Choo is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs due to a bad back, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Choo missed just one game after leaving the Rangers' July 5 contest with a stiff back, but it appears he may have aggravated the setback over the break, as he is not in the lineup for the Rangers' second-half opener. Nomar Mazara will slide over and take Choo's place in right field, and Rougned Odor will replace him atop the order.

Rangers' Jake Diekman: Lands on disabled list

The Rangers placed Diekman on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a cut on his left index finger, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Diekman cut his finger Wednesday before the All-Star break and will still need a few more days to recover, so the team decided to place him on the disabled list to open up a roster spot for fellow reliever Keone Kela. Diekman last pitched July 6, so he will be eligible to be activated as soon as next Thursday.

Rangers' Derek Holland: Transferred to 60-day DL

The Rangers transferred Holland (shoulder) to the 60-day disabled list Friday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Holland just resumed throwing last week and will need to complete several more steps before he is ready to resume pitching for the big league club, so the Rangers decided to move him to the 60-day disabled list in order to open a spot on the 40-man roster. Holland will now be sidelined at least through August 20, but he should be able to rejoin the Rangers' rotation sometime after that barring any setbacks in the coming weeks.

Rua will start in left field with Nomar Mazara moving to right field in place of the injured Shin-Soo Choo (back). Rua will hit sixth in the Rangers' batting order against Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks.

Holland moves to 60 day DL to make room for Kela on the 40 man roster.

With Diek on the DL Kela is not reinforcements but a relief in place. Figured Holland was going to be a bit longer.
