Boggs age 21 had a .797 OPS in AA. Gwynn age 21 had a 1.215 OPS in AA

Gwynn Accelerated thru the Minors. Boggs...not so much. No 'if" about it.

It is what is is world. Not a fan of the "what if card" I could just as easy say "what if he got play half his games at Fenway, he would have a lot better numbers, even more than OPS+ suggests"

Point is... "if" boggs got the call. Do we know what his Rookie numbers look like? It could have been worse than his actual rookie campaign. They may have been slow...but that' also may have helped him get off to a good start in the majors.

I remember Jay Buhner hitting his first ever HR in Yankee stadium. It went in the upper decks in Right field, and I was sitting there going alright the Yankees got another super star. Then a few years later seeing Plantier hit a long HR in Fenway and going oh shit another huge Red Sox player.




I would have sucked as a scout.
