I use Waze to get updates on where the cops is. It's not very advertising heavy.

I have at times used Google, but I kept getting distracting by their alternate routes. Like out in the middle of nowhere it tells me that if I take the next exit, and loop around and get back on the highway in the direction I am currently going, then it will add 2 minutes to my trip.

Funny thing with Google it ties into Waze and if you happen to notice on Waze it does pop up ad's just like google. It mainly does items you were at before or items similar to past searches.

Also Google, if you aren't paying attention, will update your route automatically. So unless you take you eye off the road and tap the button on the map it will update the route for you. Great job google!

I only use the GPS when I'm going on pretty long road trips and I always double check the route it lays out to make sure it isn't taking me through middle earth. I don't trust them for shit.

It did that to me on a trip back to Baltimore. Even though I specifically said no toll roads and double checked my route of 70 to 79 to 68 to 70, it kept trying to send me down some 2 lane road past Washington Pa and onto the turnpike.
