You could get injured in Spring training just as easily.

I agree, but the play on the field is no where as intense in spring training as in the WBC. Funny thing is, it was Perez' back-up that bowled him over.

such an advantage to the visiting team

I feel like this rule is so stupid. Especially how early they do it in in extras. Do it in the 13th or 14th.

Give these teams 3 innings to score without the gimmicks.

if you have to do something like this , one man starting on third to start the inning would even be more fair imo.....

Yeah 2 man on and no outs which usually ends up with 2nd and 3rd with 1 out is just not fair

I hate the "runners on" rule. But in exhibition or non-league events (like the WBC) I am OK with it. The pitchers involved are not prepared to go 5 innings out of the pen. Hell, they aren't ready to go 5 out the gate.

The MLB teams pay these guys. You have to protect their investments.

Mexico got ripped off. Runs allowed is a stupid tiebreaker by itself. Clearly run differential is a much more fair tiebreaker. That's like saying a 15-1 win is less valuable than a 1-0 win. That's ridiculous and unfair. I don't think they would have had a chance in a pool with Dominican Republic, United State and Puerto Rico but they would have at least been there and not had to re-qualify for the 2021 WBC.

I agree, RD should be used instead, but...

There isn't no 2021 WBC. This will be the last WBC.

Seriously? How come
That was announced a couple months ago.

I don't remember the actual reasons stated, but I assume the reasons are that MLB teams don't like their stars playing maeningful games at this time of year when not on their dime.

I don't see anything about it being cancelled. I did a quick google search

Also Trout just said 3 weeks ago that he is open to participating in the 2021 WBC so I think reports of it being cancelled is false for now at least.

I think there was just rumors of it being the last one. Never actually announced.

Didn't something happen with the Olympics where they are now planing to bring baseball back?

Would make sense if WBC is going away if that is true.
