I'll check it out. This book was in the Jack Ryanverse but Jack really wasn't involved, IIRC.

What timeframe in the Ryanverse? Could Krasinski make a cameo?

I don't have actual confirmation of this, but given that they're both being done by Amazon, I suspect that this film is going to be set in the present day and in the same continuity as the Krasinski series to allow for a future crossover and to start building a shared universe if the film is successful.

The book didn't involve Ryan. It is a origin story of John Clark. Well mostly it w as a revenge story showing the complete badassery of John Clark that, IMO, has never really been well displayed in the films. The closest was Clear and Present Danger but even that felt off the mark. Clark is a legit don't fuck with this guy badass in the books.

Maybe I was just nostalgic for the book, but I was pretty disappointed in this. The book had its great parts and its bad parts, but the movie didn't do much to capture any of the source material ideas in any meaningful way. Changing it up for the modern era is a cool move, but what they did with it wasn't real impressive and not real meaningful, I thought. A lot of it didn't seem particularly realistic, either, but I won't go into any spoiler material here. I'd call it 4/10, at the most.

Liev Schreiber portrayed Clark in the "Sum of All Fears", which as a movie, was a total disaster, mainly due to Ben Affleck. Nonetheless, Clark had a significant role and took care of the bad guy in the end.

I did forget about that movie. Schreiber was pretty good.

As bad as it was, it was infinitely better than a Bruce Willis one I watched called Breach. I still have a foul taste in my mouth from that one.

Yeah this.

It's worth watching if you are a huge Clancy fan.

And really, really bored.

I almost watched that last night... I clicked on, "play" and went 30 seconds into the opening credits and turned off. Guess I am glad I didn't watch it huh?
