Two observations:

1) Stave needs to get rid of the ball quicker.

2) Gordon needs to get his pads lower before contact.


Hopefully both a function of first game stiffness.

Stave threw that ball way too short for Abby.

As far as I'm concerned, we're playing OSU today and we're down 23-10.

Stave's accuracy is shit today. So far this looks more like the 2012 offense than the 2010 offense (I'm not going to try and compare to 2011). That's bad.

The good news is that the running game looks great. The bad news is just about everything else. Not a polished first half at all.

Gordon and White look great (as expected), but the running game is mixed. The O-line isn't really as great as it should be either.

If we can run a good 2-minute drill here, at least we're on pace to beat the spread.

The O-Line isn't getting a ton of forward push, but they are spreading the D-Line out to open up some pretty big holes. I'll definitely take their performance this half.

We'll see. I'm not expecting Abbredaris and Pedersen to be dropping passes all season. I'm worried about the Stave underthrow and the lack of receivers getting open. Remember, though, we always start out slow offensively (besides 2011). There's time to correct the kinks before ASU. It's safe to say that getting 220 rushing yards in a half isn't a bad sign.

That's why Stave is the starter. Great play to start the second half. Abby has already outran them 3-4 times today. We are so lucky that we got such a great guy when we didn't initially offer a scholarship. Can you imagine if we still had Russell with the way he has developed over the last two years?

I'm just saying... it's UMass. Smart, you know football... you've gotta watch the game like a coach and not like a fan.

Against these guys, Abby will catch a slightly underthrown ball and Gordon will take it to the house if someone blocks a linebacker. Against OSU, those might be an INT or a safety coming down and stopping you at a 12 yard rushing gain.

Oh, I hear you. In the past, a lot of those problem have gone over the course of the year. Maybe that was Chryst, but i'm used to improvements.

Anyways, they have looked much better in the second. After only scoring 17 in the first half, they got 28 points in the first 16:30 of the second half. And it honestly could have been more.

I'll take 45-0, especially outgaining our UMass 600-200. There are some kinks, especially with regards to a lack of a #2 WR, a couple of Stave underthrows, and a lack of defensive pressure. It was still a successful day. Nothing has changed my mind about this squad being a potential title threat.

Lack of defensive pressure might just have been that they weren't blitzing much, and apparently Aranda's defense is pretty aggressive.

It's pass timing and having receivers other than Abby and TEs. And the OL depth issues scare the shit out of me, because someone will get hurt. Those big guys always do.

They aren't going to show much with ASU a couple weeks away, so to win 45-0 with good opportunities to work on is just fine by me
