Northwest should be called the Ashton division (Van, Winn, Cal, Minni, ... Coilers can acquire Carter Ashton ... although he's over 5'11 so this is unlikely)

my, that sends a dangerous precedent
next thing you know, we'll be watching the (MPHL) Michel Petit Hockey League

/Mike Silliinger (MSHL) would also be an acceptable answer

Ken King ... heres your chance ... Glendale is keeping their "beloved" Coyotes ... so take your baby Flames to Atlanta and call them the Flames ... go into the PODS container parked behind the saddledome and the old jerseys will probably still be in there

abbotsford MEESE, here we come

bobmac says:
convention wisdom has WPG to Northwest, MIN to Central, and NSH to Southeast

... but, it's possible that WPG plays a year in the SW, and realignment would come a year later.
now THAT would be a good travel schedule

we're gettin' close!!

That would make the most sense, but it wouldn't be too bad to put WPG in the Central so that they don't mess with as many divisions.

So, bit of a side note, but does anyone else feel like Atlanta -> Winnipeg kinda sneaked up out of nowhere?

Maybe it's just because we were constantly hearing about Phoenix going back that nobody was noticing how things were going in ATL?

they had been saying Atl -> Wpg was waiting in the weeds for a month or two up here. Also, that when they get a green light to negotiate, it could take as little as a week or two.
Phx definitely taking all of the headlines, though

not at all ... how many years has it been where the Atlanta owners have been in a legal battle ... and how many years have we seen the highlight packs showing us all those empty seats ... Winnipeg & True North have always been "out there" waiting ... for anything

it was only just a matter of time ... and it will only be a matter of time for the Sunrise Panthers too ... only what market wants the team ... and lets not have people chime in with ... Seattle, KC, etc etc ... who is out there RIGHT NOW wanting to buck up

I totally follow your points, but I hadn't really been hearing anything about ATL heading to Winnipeg.

It seemed like they were so focused on Phoenix for the poetic justice of getting their old franchise back.

Then again...hockey coverage in the south...not so much.

True North has always been quiet about things, theyve played by all the NHL's rules ... They never pulled a Ballsillie and started selling season tickets before owning a team ... the few public comments Mark Chipman has made were basically "we have met with the NHL, they know we are here and we will wait"

before the whole bond issue/Goldwater breakdown in Glendale I thought the odds were better that Winnipeg would get ATL's franchise than the Phoenix one

If this Thrashers relocation results in the Red Wings moving to the Eastern Conference, dash will be doing the Happy Gilmore dance...

Hey don't give Bettman any ideas. The last thing the Atlantic Division needs is the Red Wings. Playing the Flyers, Penguins & Devils 6 times per year is bad enough. Now I realize the Islanders have OWNED the Red Wings in recent years, but the law of averages says that streak probably won't last 1 more game.

If the Thrashers were to move to Winnipeg I think they'd have to move the Preds to the Southeast and likely move Minny to the Central to make room for Winnipeg in the Northeast. If there were no divisions to consider and just an eastern and western conference then Detroit or Columbus would make the most sense to move. But if you move Detroit then how would that work for divisions? They goto the Northeast and bump Boston into the Atlantic but then what? Philly to the Souteast? No way does that happen. Nashville is really the only team that could reasonably move into the Southeast.

I'll tell you what I nominate the Islanders to the Southeast. Anything to get away from playing the Flyers 6 times per year works for me.:frusty:

Hahaha! Its hard to imagine the 3 NYC area teams not being in the same division. Also as someone else mentioned, I can't see them leaving Chicago as the only original 6 team in the west, especially with that rivalry heating up again.

From the article:

The really telling stuff, though, came from sources outside the NHL.

Former Atlanta Braves pitcher Tom Glavine, who has been trying to pull together an ownership group to keep the Thrashers in town, admitted he’s having absolutely no luck. “You have to get somebody willing to write a cheque and keep the team here,” he said. “So far, that’s been tough to get done.”

And a spokesman for Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed acknowledged the Thrashers “may leave.” More significantly, Reese McCranie said, even given that threat, the city (which is currently facing the possibility of staff layoffs) wouldn’t even consider a handout like the one offered by Glendale.

Is it really Anson Carter or Lil Jon?

2) Thrashers not Carter's only interests: We've seen and heard Anson Carter's name mentioned in connection to an ownership group that has shown interest in buying the Atlanta Thrashers, the Atlanta Hawks, Philips Arena and some of the potential real estate that would be included in a mammoth purchase.

Carter is involved - and has been for the better part of two years - but his quest to buy the Thrashers and keep the team in Atlanta has hit a dead end.

Sources say Carter has met with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly on a number of occasions - most recently in March to discussion his group's purchase strategies. But thus far, the Atlanta Spirit Group - the parent company for the Thrashers - have shown little or no interest in Carter's pursuit and because of this, Carter and his company Atlanta Sports Entertainment have moved on to explore other potential NHL opportunities.

In the meantime, Carter is working on a number of other projects, including the development of a pilot for a one-hour weekly television drama series, as well an animated show he's hoping to soon launch.

Carter is also the co-founder of a clothing line called SOMB, which stands for "Shirt off my Back," a company that donates a school uniform to a needy child in Africa each time an item of the SOMB line is sold.

Carter's apparel is currently being endorsed by a number of profile celebrities, including Britney Spears, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Eva Longoria and Cuba Gooding Jr.

Life after hockey is evidently not a problem for Anson Carter.
