In the future, Dave, if you are unhappy about the lack of threads discussing the good things about the Eagles, perhaps you could start one rather than taking potshots at every other poster. It might be more constructive if your goal is actually to foster conversation and debate.

Igloo, I was never unhappy, and my intention was not to take potshots at you or anyone else. I just happen to find it interesting that people would rather criticize a bad performance than enjoy a good one. There is something to be learned from that and I suspect we act differently on a message board than we do in person. Rarely do you see someone criticizing the cook for a home cooked meal, or the waiter for their service or just about any other service we get, most go out of their way to compliment a job well done, even if its trivial or expected. Sometimes its just being polite, but it often just turns out being sickeningly and sweetly dishonest.

But on an anonymous message board with a team of players and coaches we identify with, but most have never actually met and posters that many have never met, we act entirely differently. Arguably more honest? But also arguably less civil and almost dishonestly vicious at times.

I have a research project I am involved in where we are looking to use the internet to "crowdsource" a problem and hopefully create a dynamic where we get better answers from a large crowd then we would individually or from smaller teams. So this dynamic of message board interactions is one that I find interesting both personally and professionally, and I have hoped by discussing it here to illicit some further insight into why these message board interactions are so different from personal ones.

First of all you must realize the range of emotions that people experience with their favorite sports teams.
You talk about getting better answers but who gets to judge them and make that decision? The boards are an opportunity to sound off, cheer, rant or remain neutral. I would find it boring without the critics. I also can find them interesting when knowledgable people post. Yes Dave we do act differently on an anonymous board than
possibly around friends or family. Mainly because no one else will listen or discuss the Eagles to the extent of
a message site. However I hope you do well on your research project.

Your criticism of the lack of discussion wasn't a potshot? You're a disingenuous piece of work aren't you.

The entire post was a broadsided potshot against the entire forum!

Either you are trolling or you need help Dave. A mod should mercifully close this soon.
