oh yeah, i know you appreciate andy. and i agree about us tennis. sock could be an absolute beast...easily as good or better than janowciz, and easily a top 10-15 player. harrison is a big muscular kid, very similar in skill set to andy. it's all about whether or not he chooses to put in the hard yards off the court.

if stefan kozlov can get up to 6'0 or above, he could be the real deal, too. he's 16 and already 5'10ish, so i think the odds are good.

He must have grown. Last year this time he was shorter than me by a couple of inches. Then again mid teens is the time when kids sprout quickly. I think he has potential to make it big.

The other guy that I think is getting there is Pospisil. Even though he is Canadian I think he has that eye of the tiger and a big enough game to get there.

this would be one of the biggest wins of sam's career, imo

it's been 9 months since he's beaten a top 20 player

and the last time he beat a top 20 player at a major was in 2010 (almagro at the us open...i was in the stands for that one :))

I don't have a good feeling about this though. There's going to be so much pressure on him in that opening service game at 9-9

There is NO bad future, because the bad future is already here. Isner is the epitome of American tennis success. If up and coming guys look up to him I doubt they would go far. At least Roddick won a slam however fluke and lucky that might have been.

Yes, let's hear about how American men would be stupid to emulate the guy who was the #14 ranked junior in the US at age 18 yet somehow managed to reach the top 10 in the entire world and be the #2 player born in 1985 in the entire word (behind Nadal).

John Isner is the single greatest overachiever in tennis history. He'd be a great person for up-and-coming players to emulate

interesting that they gave rafa centre tomorrow instead of fed, but it's no big deal. the weather looks to be excellent tomorrow and wed.

* Isner lost to Feliciano Lopez 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, 7-6.

Typical of an Isner match. Lopez is always dangerous on grass, he's given Andy Murray tough matches several years in a row.

Still, as an Isner fan, I want to see him win these.

* Tsonga only had 2 break points vs. Djokovic and didn't win them. Lost in straight sets, but at least the 3rd set went into a tiebreaker.

Still, because he could barely get into Djokovic's service games, it's not super competitive.

Tsonga has lost 18 straight sets to Djokovic. Cmon man.

11 matches in a row to Djokovic.

Yeah, I know someone like FED would have those streaks against great players.

But on the other side, since I want to see Tsonga be a legit competitor, it's discouraging.

FED to play Tommy Robredo in a few minutes on ESPN.

Robredo beat FED at the 2013 USO in the 4th round.

He's a solid player, but not dangerous. A consistent rallier.

Other notable matches:

* Wawrinka vs. Feliciano Lopez.

* Raonic vs. Nishikori. Nishikori has been solid for about a calendar year. This could be a good one.

* Nadal vs. Krygios. Krgios saved 9 match points against Gasquet several rounds ago.

He also says it's his dream to play doubles with THE FED.

It's been an average tournament so far.

I think the Australian Open has better / more competitive matches, on average. Especially the 2nd week.

Among other bits and pieces, Krgios saving those match points was fun for those few mins.

And Isner-Garcia Lopez was both interesting and disappointing, both because of the tiebreaks, and Isner's lack of breaking.

Sharapova saves 6 match points but breaks Sharapova on the 7th to win the match.

The last game had a lot of deuces.

Great match.

Serena not feeling well, getting checked out (like they do with concussion tests).

This is before the match started.

not really surprising to see masha or rafa go out. there's a reason you almost never see the french/wimbledon double.

i would love to see dimitrov or raonic make the final.

Maybe, but someone like Nadal hasn't been able to return to well on grass the past few years anyways.

I don't think it was as much a case of him being tired, but not doing well in a certain part of the game.

There also seem to be players that are grass court specialists, who's game is the best on this type of surface.
