I don't know if legally his season ever started. If he intended to play in earnest, then it would seem Betts gets paid, potentially without ever having a regular season AB as a Dodger.

My guess is that whatever team has deep pockets and a need for Betts goes and signs him to a massive contract, if he hits free agency. The Dodgers are in a crappy situation, where they've maybe paid $27 million just for the rights to negotiate with him. Sucks, but who cares- it's the Dodgers.
