Lamoriello said he had no problem with Kovalchuk playing for SKA St. Petersburg today to stay in playing shape til CBA is official.

Unions suck. I wish more star players would stay in Russia or whatever leagues they were playing in to make a statement.

Would we expect anything else from Louie Lams though? One bad rut in the ice and there goes Kovy's ACL, I can't imagine Lou is too pleased.

I don't really want to imagine losing Parise and Kovy and then potentially losing Zajac next year. Top lines aren't that important in hockey are they?

My team has two of them. It's the goalies and the defense that are expendable.

Remember the days when guys were risking their lives to get to the NHL? Sad state of affairs, man. Will the ones that stay be considered U.S. defectors?

Thankfully, I know OV arrived back at Dulles a couple days ago.
"I am very comfortable in Moscow, Russia in general, but my soul is across the ocean, in the NHL, with Washington Capitals, with whom I still hope to win the Stanley Cup."

Datysuk being wooed as well to stay

Slava Malamud ‏@SlavaMalamud
Hearing talk from Russia, that oil and natural gas magnates who own SKA and CSKA will look into ways of keeping Kovalchuk, Datsyuk.

this strikes me as a slick move to frak the NHL

If that was inserted b/c we are talking about natural gas moguls, then that was brilliant, Matty. :pizza:

KHL has said they will abide by the rules currently in place - How did that work with Radulov?

Stay in the K Kovalchuk. Maybe your absence will help avert the next lockout.

Meanwhile, Alex Radulov was a healthy scratch for CSKA today, is reportedly embroiled in a conflict with the head coach #AndTheWorldTurns

Disclaimer: Larry Brooks reporting the following:

The Post’s Larry Brooks reported that four players -- Kovalchuk, Alexander Ovechkin, Pavel Datsyuk and Evgeni Malkin -- were preparing to issue a statement last Friday announcing that they planned to remain in the KHL, even if an NHL labor agreement was reached. They were guaranteed $30 million each by Russian President Vladimir Putin, but the NHL Players Association talked the players out of it.

As we know, Ovechkin is already back in the States and Datsyuk is reportedly on his way.

Igor Kleyner ‏@IgorKleyner KHL pres Medvedev makes case that existing NHL contracts may not be binding because they are under new CBA, thus players may walk if chose

IIHF may have to step in here...
