Basketball is the perfect sport for China:

- tiny court means easy to setup in densely populated areas, not much space needed
- easy to get into, not a lot of rules to turn off new viewers
- lots of action and athleticism
- height gives you a huge advantage and with China's massive population you're inevitably going to get lots of really tall people, so China will become better over time at it

Considering there are no sports other than Soccer being played in some countries, then of course those people are going to watch it.

I don't care that it's the most watched globally, as long as it doesn't cut into the sports I watch here in the states.

Ahhh.....but basketball is the fastest growing sport in China by a pretty wide margin. That's a billion fans right there......they won't even need europe.

There is really not any untapped growth markets in Europe, Africa or Latin America.
Those regions are already maxed out for soccer fans.
Only Asian and North American markets are untapped.

But basketball has plenty of room to grow.

Basketball is becoming more popular is Soccer strongholds much faster than soccer is penetrating the basketball strongholds.

Despite nearly 50 years of nonstop marketing, soccer barely registers in the USA.
They have been selling us the same old, "wait til all these kids playing soccer grow up" line since the 1970s. It still has not happened. Some of the original future soccer "wait til they grow up" kids are now approaching 50 years old.

Soccer is already the #1 spectator sport in China. Its not "neutral". Soccer is also the 2nd most popular sport in Japan where basketball is irrelevant, and same with India. Hong Kong, Malasyia...etc all have soccer as their favorite sport.
