Just heard some talk on the radio about Eli not being with the Giants after next season and the notion is not entirely without merit.

Cutting Eli would save the Giants $17.5M in cap space for 2015. He (not to mention Coughlin) are only under contract through next season and they're coming off another sub-.500 season with Eli tossing over 20 INTs.

Sounds to me like a legit "do or die" season in '14 for the Giants. Do it or start blowing shit up.

What do you think?

Quite possible, they've already paid the majority of the $35 mil guaranteed.

Eli is one issue...I'm not sure why the FO sticks with Coughlin...not that he's a bad HC, but at his age, is he the guy to turn it around? I don't think so.

Might be the last season for Coughlin if they have a bad one. Cowher has always had his eye on NY for some reason.

QB's are in short supply and Eli has won 2 rings - it would be hard to justify to the fans why you're dumping him.

And in favor of whom?

I think Eli comes back strong in 2014 and Coughlin keeps his job.

He'd be a cap hit of $19,750,000 in 2015 according to spotrac. If that's accurate, there's no way they bail on him before 2016.

In fairness to TC, he didn't have much to work with this year. All teams had injuries, but the Giants had a lot of injuries to big time players, the defense was banged up before the season even started, they didn't have a running back for most of the year. I'd put the blame on Jerry Reese before TC.

Thought he recently said he didn't want to come back to coaching? Or was that just for a certain team?

The answer is rather simple, the Giants ownership has traditionally not had a hot trigger when it comes to firing anybody. If they were a typical organization, I would bet money Coughlin isn't around to see the success the team has had in the postseason.

Coughlin's had 1 losing season (7-9) and two superbowls in his last 10 years with the Giants.

He is going nowhere except on his own terms.

As for Eli, that is equally as ridiculous.
Any financial concerns will be administered by restructuring the deal.

Eli had hands down the worst running backs in the NFL with a shaky offensive line.
It was a credit to Eli's durability that he made it through the season upright and reasonably healthy.

I thought I heard a quote or strong rumor that ownership said he's earned the right to walk away on his own terms.

I can't stand the Mannings, but I think the Giants might be making a mistake if they let Eli go. The reason I feel this way is who would they get to replace him? QB's don't grow on trees in the NFL. Maybe they get lucky & Manziel falls to them in this years draft, but they better have somebody in place if they say goodbye to Eli.

They might want to see Nassib, you never know, but I would tend to agree.

Why would they do that? I don't know if you know this Hammer, but the NFL stepped in & forced the Giants to get their act together after they were simply horrible in the 70's. That's when guys like George Young 7 Ernie Accorsi came aboard. The Giants are now a very well run organization now. I just don't think they'll do that.

Eli was probably the 2nd least valuable player in the NFL last year behind Matt Schaub. The Giants are poised for a turnaround season like the Eagles had this year provided that they dont turn the ball over 3 times a game

Sure, but their track record has traditionally been conservative in nature. ( and no, not politicial in nature).

The Maras and Rooney's are the same in that regard, but the NYG have fired HCs with similar records, but those guys didn't win a SB...I get the sense they are just letting him finish out his contract.
