His line up defensive rating, his personal rating and his defensive win shares are the same this year (great with him on the floor, top 5 in the league, top 5 in the league) as they were the previous year. The year before that, he had a limited role in his first year with the Heat bouncing around in line ups as they found how to use him. But that's still two full seasons of multiple stats show his defensive prowess even on top of the three seasons of the on/off stat. So the logical conclusion there would be that the on/off stat is messy and an outlier. Multiple measurements over a large sample size say the same thing, one stat over that same sample size says other wise. Stats 101, its an outlier. That's not something to hang your hat on. It's something to question

Also, could you at least link to said stat and not quote the clip from the column which didn't bother to show the stat? The quote is messy itself because it seems to be confusing BPM with Defensive RTG because all the defensive rtg stats on NBA.com favor Whiteside.
