Am I the only one mad as hell? Am I the only one questioning this new GM? Why are we tearing apart the strength of our team and not addressing the real problems? Now we'll spend more money on yet a another hole and be worse off both talent wise and financially. This is the end for AJ too, I don't believe he'll sign with us now and no chance he ever sees one on one coverage again. I knew when we hired emily that we got a shitty GM, and I know this new GM is gonna be even worse. I did not want to say this and be labeled a whinny ass, like I was when we signed emily. But from day one I hated the hire and now it begins. Sorry folks, I am not a negative type but man o man I just don't know how much more I can take. I'll never root for any other team, but I think I'm about to go cold turkey.

at least in online forums, I see some other folks who are mad like you. Opinions mostly seem pretty positive on this for the Bears, but there are definitely others who are mad. I'm sure when I head to the bar tonight I'll hear a wide variety of football opinions on this move.

Noon, I liked Marshall. Like you, I agree that receivers averaging better than 1100 yards for their career do not grow on trees. This could be one of the defining moments for the new staff (Fox/Pace). But it is still early in the off-season. Free agency hasn't even started yet. So I'm not going to throw in the towel yet. Let's let this play out.

As much as I like Marshall, we haven't even won a division title with him. And the last 3 Super Bowl winners did not have a 1000-yard receiver on their team. (Unless you count TE Gronk.) Just looking for a silver lining...

Ok A,Joe. I vented and now feel better. It's not BM being gone that has me so upset. It's hiring a fool for a GM once again that has me riled. I'm gonna try real hard to be better. But mark my words for future conversations when things are proven right or wrong.

AverageJoe... I can't agree more with what you said. The highlighted part is also key for me.
I'm looking at the positives this Marshall deal gives the Bears.
  1. Eliminates the questionable off field behavior- And probably more importantly signifies to the rest of the team that management isn't going to accept that type of stuff.
  2. DON'T panic- like every off season this team is going look different after Free Agency, and even more after the draft. Add to that- better management & better coaching.
  3. I liked BM the first two years he was here- I didn't see many of the warning signs and stuff other fans had said about him. I even liked what I saw in person at TC. *he was awesome to the kids- But this season really showed me that he really hasn't changed. The examples are numerous and have been discussed.
  4. Production can be found other places- Where will they get 1100 yards and 6-8 TD's? I think Gase will get more yards out of the running game 300+ (if given additional RB/OL) Alshon will be a #1 +200, WR that replaces BM- speed guy- 700+. A second TE that can play (Miller?) 250+? That's 1450 right there. If they can strike with a draft pick/FA WR or RB that has a good year It could be even more.
This is a good move.

Wait- what proof do you have that makes Pace a fool?
Until this Marshall deal he hasn't done anything yet... And he just created more cap space and freed up cash for something younger and potentially better for the future.
Why a fool?
Did Briggs prove he needs to stay after his last two seasons?
No word yet on Cutler- But would that change the fool thing? That will make me laugh really hard when everyone who is upset about losing Brandon will praise him if he ships off Cutler...(and then of course bitch him out when the replacement sucks worse.)

....Freed up cap space?? We lost our underpaid no.1 WR and will have to replace him with a higher paid one if we want his production replaced. We lost cap room and talent, not gained. And getting rid of Cutler is a no brainer if possible and a death ticket if kept. I never liked or wanted this GM, but I had hope. Don't now, but had hope. He is currently being laughed at by everyone connected to football.

I'm sorta with noon....we had him at a decent price. Last season shouldn't count against him, as he was great when healthy, and that's with a shitty team overall. Reign in the extra-curricular shit and yer good.

I really don't see where this move helps us other than a perceived locker room cancer....a cancer that wasn't a cancer until last year's back-alley abortion. A season, where anyone with a pulse would rightfully be a bit out of their mind...since sanity seems to be the biggest knock against him.

He is on the downside of 30 en sech, but we are not better without him no matter how you want to spin it.

Brandon Marshall was at the absolute core of the Bears problems. Locker room issues we're a HUGE problem last year, and Brandon was obviously at the root of that. His act got old. According to everyone close to the Bears, most vets would quote "Pay for Marshall's plane ticket out of town".

The guy has done this in every city… he's one of the best WR's in the league… yet, he's only worth a 5th round pick on the open market. Do the freaking math, I mean... for christ's sake.

He is New York's problem now. Great day for the Bears. They are now cancer free, from a locker room standpoint.

He still has to be replaced........and with what? and at what cost?

to replace him we will be SPENDING.

That move did nothing for us.

this is gonna be another Julius Peppers to save money and what did it get us?

Ok,now I before I post anymore about this, lets see who we get in place of him first.

Mad..yes.......disappointed.......hell yes........But lets see what happens.

We freed up 7.7 towards the cap this year, I believe. Pretty good.

We don't have to replace anything. You watch the super bowl the past few years? How many elite WR's on either sideline? One in 2013 with Demaryius Thomas? There are MANY worse receiving groups than Alshon, Marquess, Martellus, Forte and potentially a guy like Hartline.

You don't need all-universe receivers to win in this league.

What the hell are you all talking about? Why do we HAVE to get a hugely expensive WR just because we got rid of one?

The "air it out" experiment is over. Our receivers are absolutely fine.

Also, are you insinuating that we should have kept Peppers at 18 or 20 mil per year or whatever that was? That's a joke.

Expensive wr?.........we need to replace what is now broken. And you`re gonna tell me we won`t replace BM?
because our wrs are fine?

You`re nuts.

With out BM,our passing game is gonna really be extinct. because no one is will be scared of what we have out there at that position........This was a bad move.

And to have kept JP,i`m not sure his salary was that high last season, but we had no def.end at all, unless of course you called Jared Allen a great pick up.

He wasn`t.

How scared were they of Brandon Marshall this year? He was injured and couldn't get past anyone this year. Was he magically going to turn 25 years old?

Again this is why you aren't in football management . When the patriots or if lovie did this you say they are geniuses. Marshall was not underpaid and we did not lose cap room. You are the biggest chicken little believer on these boards. Sit back and let the men who know WAY more than you do their job and then complain when the job is over. none of us can predict what good or bad will come of this....not even you

Maybe these guys know way more then you but that has nothing to do with me. 7.5 mil is underpaid for a BM and common sense is all that is needed to see this was a bonehead move. So do the guys that know way more then me live in Chicago or NY. 2 years ago you told me shut up and let the guys that know way more then me do their jobs. How did that work out? This board would be pretty lame if us fans can't voice our opinions. And I don't think these guys know way more then me or less, were all human and there is no majic involved.

Speed was never part of his game. Cmon you have to see this will hurt us. AJ will get everyone's best defender now to boot. The ripple effects will be huge.
