why is navy joining the AAC?

I think they can still play AF, ND, and Army every year (but no one else). So I'm guessing they'll make more money in conference than without. AAC might not have a huge media market but they still should get better tv deals than Navy gets as a stand alone.

They originally agreed to join what was known as the Big East, so that might be why you couldn't find anything on it. Check this link from the Navy athletics website (no, it's not pron!)

Ok I'm a dumbass I read ACC instead of AAC trying to multi-task and failed miserably.

My guess would be that scheduling their non-football sports has been such a pain they feel it is worth it. I can't imagine how difficult it is to schedule basketball, track, swimming, etc as an independent.

Navy is only independent in football the rest of their sports are in the Patriot League.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say they think they can make more money.

Army should join a conference too......the MAC.

The MAC is still at an awkward 13 members.....UMass needs to give up their dreams of AAC membership and instead go all-in as a full MAC member so that the MAC can add Army as the 14th member.

And if the MAC doesn't add Army, then they should look at possibly adding James Madison or Delaware or Stony Brook or Towson or Eastern Kentucky from the east........or..........possibly add Illinois State or Southern Illinois or Northern Iowa or North Dakota State from the west.

Perhaps the MAC could even expand to 16 members by adding a few of those schools mentioned above.

Considering they're a service academy I can't see how money would ever be an issue...

navy is a good enough program where consistently playing decent FB teams is a necessity
