That some PED users seem to get a free pass, while others are crucified?

It seems like nobody even mentions David Ortiz's PED use that he admitted to or Andy Pettitte, but Barry Bonds still isn't a HOFer and Rafael Palmeiro is off the ballot and Sammy Sosa is barely hanging on?

Personally, I say it happened, it is what it is, and it's still going on. Let em all in.

Or keep 'em all out, as they basically made a mockery of some pretty f*cking hallowed numbers.

Problem is, in all likelyhood, some of 'em are already in.

PEDs have been around since the 1800's. Baseball's first 300 game winner, Pud Galvin used to drink a concoction containing monkey testosterone. Babe Ruth injected himself with extract from sheep testicles. Hank Aaron and Willie Mays used amphetamines. Countless have used booger sugar.

Right. But oddly, only 2 humans were able to hit as many as 60 HR in a single season from the birth of the game to the late 1990s.

Then suddenly, in the space of 3 years, 3 different players not only cracked 60, but passed it quite easily, and 2 of them broke 70.

Yeah, performance enhancing has been going on for a century or more, but it's my opinion that the greatest damage to the game was done 20 years ago.

Of course the PEDs get better as time goes by, but PEDs have been around since the dawn of the sport regardless.

Fact is, H of F can make whatever rules it wants regardless of discussion or debate. They can let in PEDs guys if they want and keep anybody out they want.

I have always been amazed at ortiz and jeter getting a free pass after they both were clearly past their prime then suddenly were good again.

Jeter's a weird example because it's not really like he had a second prime (like Clemens or Ortiz did)....his final few years were a rollercoaster.

I can't speak to Ortiz (maybe because he is likable?) but I've always been more lenient with Pettitte because he was front and center and owned up to it, and I know others are the same. Doesn't make him any less of a cheater but the fact he did that after is respectable.

I hate the debate to keep PED users out of the HOF. Whether it be scuffing baseballs or taking greenies to give your team an edge, the HOF is already full of guys who did what they had to do to win. And I would argue, had it not been for the big PED users following the 94 strike, MLB would've never rebounded in popularity. It was the homerun chase that really brought the national attention back.

The HOF and baseball writers being uppity with their ballots pisses me off. The HOF is all about preserving the game. Guys like Clemons and Bonds, like it or not, are a huge part of that.

Here's the bottom line ... if players like Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens were using PED's then I guarantee just about every player was. Major League Baseball enjoyed a great home run race between Sosa and McGwire which brought baseball back in many people eyes after a very stupid lock out which canceled the World Series. Let them in and police the game while things are happening.

I don't really give a shit about the feelings of the guys not in the HOF.

Considering PED users were putting up HOF numbers against other PED users I'd say it's fair to let them in.

Oh no Bonds used PEDs, yeah? So did every pitcher he faced and he dominated them.

Are you accusing Greg Maddux of using PEDs?

Yes. Glavine and Smoltz too. Maddux had, like,
It takes more than just solid nutrition and workout regimen to amass 5000 innings pitched, even when your heater only tops out at 85. That dude had some help.

The HOF is neither owned nor operated by MLB. So, if they insist on blackballing certain players for opinionated reasons, the Hall will eventually lose its credibility. Another organization will come along that has a more fair voting system and will gain authenticity in the public eye. Its inevitable. May not happen in our lifetimes, but it will ultimately happen if the Hall voters don't stop acting like elitist assholes.

Maybe. I always figured PEDs wouldn't have the desired effect on a guy like Maddux.
