Yeah, that part of his game may take some more time to manifest itself in the big leagues. He slugged .483 in the minors so I think he has it in him.

I can agree with that for the most part but I would like a 3B with a little pop. He has 11 hits with 3 of them coming in his 1st game and many of those hits come off the bat with a rather low exit velocity. I am not asking for a HR hitter but I do want to see more than 1 double. I do like that he makes the pitcher work and I agree with Saddles in that it will come in time. I like Smith so that was my one negative from what I see.

He's had 50 inconsistent plate appearances due to injuries and an insistence on playing Miller, a lot of positives to glean otherwise

Update on Kyle Gibson. He did not make it out of the 3rd inning in his last start and today he has given up 5 runs in the 1st inning. His ERA is at 4.98.

He gave up back to back to back to back home runs.
4 HRS in a row.
Only the 11th time in history a team has done that. Wonder how many pitchers have had that happen to them.

These balls are not the same balls being used during the first 6-8 weeks of the season.

I looked back and when Josh Smith was first promoted to AA last year he didn't get an extra base hit in his first 9 or 10 games. Then in his last 19 starts he hit 5 doubles and 3 HR.

Yeah, as a bench player he is useful, but I don't know that Woody would keep him on the bench enough.
